I'm asking this because I honestly don't know, is it because they are overpriced, or other reasons. Also, is 8gb of ram good enough for a alienware r3 15, if i'm only playing overwatch and battlegrounds and ghost recon?

I didn't know they were hated. They were the first brand I saw selling these supercharged PCs, opening up the world of high performing PCs to me. A couple years ago a repairman came to the house, and had a thick ass Alienware laptop. I was rather jealous, at the time my PC was a nearly decade old HP. So I don't really have anything bad to say about Alienware, at this point though I prefer just doing the custom route and swapping parts, rather than getting a pre-built PC.

I have 32GB RAM, I just know when I searched for the best custom PC setups, 8GB RAM was suggested as the minimum for PC gaming. Overwatch doesn't look like a taxing game, but I'm not a PC gamer, so I'm not sure. I'd play it safe and go for 16GB at least.

Seems like the better option. Thanks!

I think partly because people act like they are the best brand in the world, that if you don't have Alienware, your PC is always inferior. If people want to pay a premium, fine, but people need to know you don't have to get one.

yeah, its kinda a crutch for people who don't know PC hardware too well......"yeah well I got an alieware neh neh!!!"

many years ago when info and guides etc were harder to come by and there was more pitfalls in computer building for new comers it might have been good, but its kinda "meh" at this point, I guess the laptops have a purpose though as its much harder to build custom laptops that focus on gaming, but even then, if your a PC gamer most people would prefer to have a dedicated gaming system that they can upgrade along the way

Hi! Alienware is the Apple of gaming PCs. Ever since they were bought out by Dell, the quality drastically dropped. It has come up a fair bit as well. Still, far expensive for what you're actually getting. You're getting flashy lights and cool cases. Form over functionality.

The consensus is that you can build better for less. It's right a fair chunk of the time. That's it for all prebuilt-configurations really.

Also, 8GB is the standard, but will soon be replaced by 16GB. Keep your options open.

The reason is mostly about desktops, because you can build a desktop so much cheaper, for laptops it's a different story because we can't really reasonably build them yet, as far as I know anyway, but be sure to check comparative asus ROG, Gigabyte, ect laptops and make sure your getting a good deal, on a site like Newegg. There's also sites that will build you a laptop but I dunno the prices/features.

Edit: If your getting a desktop I definitely recommend building one, it will be exactly what you want for less then you can buy one for, and you also get to know you built it, it isn't very hard at all, just watch a few YouTube videos, and if the main reason your getting a Alienware is the case, there are awesome cases available.

Depends if he's buying a laptop, I personally don't know a way to build one, I know people buy random parts and try and make them work, but it seems a bit unreasonable.

Edit again: Actually MSI it seems makes bare ones laptops for you to customize.

Eh. They tend to actually have fair prices on laptops.. I'd still recommend an MSI or Aorus, though.

From what I've seen they're doesnt tend to be fair prices for laptops, tho is also recommend looking at brands other then Alienware, but if he just likes the Alienware style, and it's comparable, he should probably just go with what he wants.

As long as he doesn't buy razer. I'm sorry, but there's no way to ever justify buying their laptops. Unless you've got the money to wave around.

Lenovo's pretty good too, I've had a laptop for almost six years, still works great, only thing is minor cosmetic damage.

I know a few people who owned their y series gaming laptops... Can't say I'm impressed.

Doesn't mean they're bad though. Everybody has a bad experience with something. Lol

Their PCs are massively overpriced. But, so are most pre-built PCs.

Their laptops are really good though and priced about the same as any other laptop with the same specs, with the bonus of looking cool.

Alienware got better once dell acquired them but the infamy remained.

If you want a should-be hated brand of overpriced shit, that brand is now Razer. Everything they sell is a joke.

*Shrug* like I have with Dell, they're the most popular brand, or close to it, but something being popular doesn't mean it's good; I worked for Dell tech support and I've seen how bad they are. I wouldn't wish a Dell on my enemies lol. I'd suggest
Acer, Asus, Lenovo, etc instead.
