That's cool with me as I'm more than content with vWii at the moment.

Speaking of which is there a guide that will help me to install WiiFlow and Nintendon't (preferably integrated)?

It's always best to keep to the lowest fw possible, that link while it says that particular exploit was fixed in 5.2.0, the lower you stay the better it is.

While I'm not sure of a guide specific for the vWii i recommend this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/101209384/MasterPiece/Wiiflow_Pack.html

Just be careful and use the vwii wads not normal ones in pack

*EDIT: i also use neek2o emulated nand so you don't have to worry about game wads in system menu and they can all be loaded through wiiflow.

*EDIT 2:

head here http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/8119-Compiling-a-vWii-compatible-version-of-SNEEK
and download FS Toolbox, launch from HBC, dump nand, choose option dump files from current folder, put that nand on to you're usb drive in a folder called nands>nandnamehere>.

use the PC app ShowMiiWads to install wiiware/vc to your dumped nand.

From the Wiiflow pack above, copy the "Nintendont", "nSwitch", "wiiflow" folders from apps, to you apps folder on you're usb drive.

Then from the "_Alternate stuff" folder extract "Uneek2o_96_Beta_9.6.7z" to the root of you're usb. "nintendont2.258-MasterMod.rar" in your Nintendont folder in apps overwriting the previously copied files.

Next from the root of that pack copy to the root of you usb "*.bin" files, the "WiiFlow" folder.

From the wads folder install
"WiiFlow Channel - Clouds v15 for vWii - DWFA.wad"
"Neek2o Uneek - NK2O v4.2 vWii.wad"

MAKE SURE YOU GET THE vWii VERSIONS!

That should be enough to get you started.

Superb, thanks for that.

I've got the basics all done and can run the USB loader via HBC now so will check that out and start more customization.

One thing, is it possible to get rid of the Wii U "USB needs to be formatted" nag screen?

Yeah. I think it's in the definitive guide. You have to plug the external USB into your PC and run an app. Search for "nag" and you should find the thread

So wait, is there an advantage to staying on 5.2.0? I read the earlier link that stated that whatever weakness there was had already been patched in 5.2.0 ergo making the leap to 5.3.2 seem the best thing to do?
There ISN'T an advantage currently, but whenever someone gets around to coding the exploit we know exists, then you'll have one.

Quick question about GX Loader, is it a bit funny with different USB sticks? I've tried it with my old 32GB stick and it performs perfectly (Wii titles and GC via Nintendont). Transferred the same files over to a 128GB (Sandisk UltraFit 128GB) and the GC titles load up fine but the Wii ones just go to a black screen.

Tried it with Wiiflow and it was all fine?

Drive is FAT32 formatted, files are setup as WBFS standard, nothing fancy. Any ideas?

Many thanks, any ideas on the question above with the USB sticks causing black screens?
I've had mixed results with USB drives and GX Loader on vwii. On my wiis they all work great but on the vWii I usually have to switch through cios's to find a working one.

Oddly enough the 32GB works perfectly but the 128GB is hit and miss. Strangeness.

A quick question about the eShop, how do I use it whilst preventing my firmware from being updated?

Dear jailminer,

Many thanks for your courteous response detailing this fantastic land of information that exists just beyond this "search bar" you mention. I hope to visit it one day.
That surely will help but the reason why I asked is the stickies and guides are all over place and appear to be aimed at seasoned Wii U hackers who know what to do.

I require something a bit simpler if possible, preferably step by step, with pretty pictures of how to get my Wii U singing and dancing that funky homebrew tune and whether its worth staying at 5.2 and all that jazz.

Lol dude people are like that here. Its like, this is a huge community of people who can offer advice. Sometimes a simple search doesn't cut it, so I feel ya. I am super bummed, I have a wii u at 5.3.2 and one at 5.5.1, the 5.3.2 one was originally on 5.2 but I updated so I could use loadiine! Damn it, good find getting that system. I am going to be asking around once we know more about the IOSU hack if anyone has a wii u they have not touched in years.

Personally I feel the hack will be released on 5.3.2 as there are not many people on 5.2.0 plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a working private exploit all the way up to the latest firmware anyway?

Also, now that I'm more immersed in this again the bazillion threads with all their acronyms make more sense but they are super confusing when starting out with an NAND over here and IOS there :D

A userland exploit has been released for 5.4.0 and 5.5.0. !

Our current situation:

RoadrunnerWMC said:
Hi. This is my first post here, so a little bit about myself: I'm friends with Marionumber1 and MrRean, and have been graciously given access to that team's private exploits. I mainly make level editors and other editors for Wii U game files. (For the record, I'm also the person who updates the exploit compatibility table on http://rhcafe.us.to/ .)

I've been watching this thread for a very long time, and decided to finally make an account here to clear up what the current Wii U hacking situation is, since there seems to be a whole lot of confusion.

Types of exploits (sorted by amount of access granted)
With a userspace exploit (usually through WebKit in the Internet Browser), you can run Hello World and basic homebrew games. These exploits are mainly important because they are needed to run more exploits. These are referred to interchangeably as "userspace," "userland" and "WebKit" exploits.
With a Cafe OS ("kernel") exploit, you can run TCPGecko and any of the programs that end in -iine (and probably some others I'm forgetting). In order to run one of these exploits, you first need a userspace exploit.
With an IOSU exploit, you get all of the benefits of a kernel exploit, plus more access to lower-level services. Most IOSU exploits first require a kernel exploit; Hykem's is unusual in that it only requires a userspace exploit.

Exploit status on recent firmware versions
5.3.2:
A WebKit userspace exploit is available. There is a public, extremely unreliable kernel exploit in the form of the infamous OSDriver race attack. Several private IOSU exploits exist.
5.4.0: The libstagefright MP4 userspace exploit is available. The unreliable kernel exploit from 5.3.2 still exists. Several private IOSU exploits exist.
5.5.0: The libstagefright MP4 userspace exploit is available. The OSDriver kernel exploit is gone, but there is a different kernel exploit that is extremely reliable, which is currently private. Several private IOSU exploits exist.
5.5.1: libstagefright userspace exploits no longer work. There is no replacement userspace exploit yet, but I know that several people from the team are trying to find one. Nothing else has changed; the reliable (yet private) kernel exploit from 5.5.0 should still work, in theory, but can't be used due to the lack of a userspace exploit. Several private IOSU exploits exist, and theoretically work, but can't be used for the same reason as the kernel exploit.

Hykem's IOSU Exploit
The IOSU exploit Hykem is working on should work on any version that already has a userspace exploit. Right now, this means anything except 5.5.1. When a userspace exploit is found for 5.5.1, the IOSU exploit will work there immediately; we know this because the 5.5.1 update data only affects the internet browser.

Summaries
5.3.2:
Reliable userspace exploit, unreliable kernel exploit (OSDriver), private IOSU exploits.
5.4.0: Reliable userspace exploit (MP4), unreliable kernel exploit (OSDriver), private IOSU exploits.
5.5.0: Reliable userspace exploit (MP4), private reliable kernel exploit, private IOSU exploits.
5.5.1: No userspace exploit. Private reliable kernel exploit (theoretically), private IOSU exploits (theoretically). Because there's no userspace exploit, the other exploits can't be run.

TL;DR
Versions that can be used for fun hacks right now: 5.3.2, 5.4.0
Versions that can be used for fun hacks by private teams now, and by you in the future: 5.5.0
Versions that nobody has run fun hacks on yet: 5.5.1
("Fun hacks" are TCPGecko, Cafiine, Dumpiine, ___iine, etc. Things that require both a userspace and a kernel exploit.)

Hopefully that helps some of you understand where we're at right now. I'll be around here to answer questions now and then.

Hah this is already old news. The IOSU has already been released for multiple versions.

Um what? If that's old news it's only like 2 hours old lol. There aren't any public IOSU hacks to my knowledge.
^ agreed. however, if you know what you're doing, YOU CAN MAKE ONE. just cant do anything with it.

I don't see anything there.

(inb4 he's talking about iosutools which would be the most fucking funny thing ive seen on temp in a while)

I see a kernel exploit and tools to make an IOSU exploit if you know how to reverse engineer. Both dated about a month and a half ago (05/03/16), and both useless to a typical end user. There is no publically available IOSU yet, and certainly no homebrew to take advantage of it.
Eh, you can't reverse engineer it very well. It's literally only tools to use once we have IOSU exploit, reverse engineering will help you understand IOSU, but not get an exploit.

I've really only been here a month, and active for a shorter period than that. You would know better than I. ;)
