Yeah I know ROM hacks have made this kind of thing possible for some time, but as a collector I couldn't resist the full set with the booklet too :)

Not sad at all mate! I love SMB games so can't wait for this. The only feature I wish it had was making 3D levels like SM3DW and Galaxy-style levels.

Game: £30
T-shirt: £10
amiibo: £10

Then there's the booklet. I've to say it's a good deal but this kind of Mario stage maker has been out for ages and I prefer to purchase a full game (Splatoon clearly wasn't).

Looking forward to Devil's Third, Xenoblade X and Fatal Frame this year on Wii U.
No ROM hacks or fangames have the level of customization Mario Maker does though. :) It's gonna be great.
The amiibo looks kinda cool, but still... it's an amiibo.

Oh really? That's cool! What can Mario Maker do that ROM hacks can't?

Yeah, I don't have any interest in amiibos in terms of their functionality, but as collector's items and figurines I like them. I've got a green yarn Yoshi amiibo which I'll keep in its packaging, and intend to do the same with the Mario 30th Anniversary amiibo. Who knows, they might be worth something once day and my kids can sell them ;)

The Yarn Yoshi amiibo is cool though. The only amiibo I have ever considered buying. Too bad it's Made in China. A handmade one would be so much better.

As a ROM hacker myself, I think that Super Mario Maker has a lot of nice objects and enemies that some Mario game have never even had, and these are things that would require a lot of work with ROM hacking. But the possibilities with Super Mario Maker are far from unlimited in comparison to ROM hacking. For instance, Super Mario Maker seems to lack many things, like:

-The ability to create your own objects and enemies.
-Custom graphics and music creation.
-Restricted level format. (i.e. Level Length, Game Play, even something as simple as ground slopes.)

It's sure going to be fun to play around with some new features, though.

Hopefully some of those restrictions will be patched in an update. Personally I'm glad they haven't allowed custom objects, enemies, graphics and music, as this would inevitably lead to games being created which feel distinctly un-Mario-like. However, I realise why that's disappointing for some people who aren't such die-hard Mario fans as me.

I too love Mario platformers but just tired of these kind of games which are nothing more than filler until the proper one is released. Fuck NSMB, M3DL/W and god dammit, just make a sequel to Mario 64, Sunshine or Galaxy.

Nintendo these days is lazy as fuck and prefer to focus their attention on amiibos and mini-games such as this.

Not interested. It might be fun for some people but its not for me. Nintendo is lazy. They should focus on better Wii U game instead of this crap maker tool! Jeez.

Look at it this way - once Super Mario Maker is released, they won't need to make anymore 2D SMB games as the fans will make them for them... So they can concentrate on SMG 3 ;)
