Dear reader, after doing some (small) research, I really lost my focus when reading all those different methods and tutorials about installing a Homebrew Channel and a Game.
I want to play and run a specific (Wii) Game onto (Virtual)Wii of my WiiU.

I have read the following post regarding installing the homebrew without any necessary game(s).
After doing this, what then?

Which is the BEST(aka easiest, less chance of bricking) method of installing a game.
Forgive me if this (question or tutorial) already exists, but I've searched and some tutorials are not at all clear to me.

The questions I have at this moment are:
  • After installing Homebrew Channel according to the above URL, what is the easiest way (and quickest, safest way), to instal a game.
  • On (download)sites there are Wii -.iso's available to download, is this THE format to use in the process or have I to convert these files to so called WBFS?
  • Is it possible to 'save' these games on the same USB-stick/HDD where my WiiU games are stored?
Thank you in advance,
T.

I've used this tutorial and i'm doing great some vWii playing as of now.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-definitive-vwii-hacking-guide.425852/

One thing i should mention is that instead of USBLoader GX, the one recomended there, i REALLY think WiiFlow Mastermod for the WiiU is a better option. You should look into it, if you want to. Specially since LoaderGX can't load games from SD Cards, only USB.

@walterdavid thanks for the URL, I'll look into it! There are some things who remains unanswered like if I can 'install' my games onto the same USB or HDD which I use on the WiiU itself. But thank you again. :)

You can't install in the same HDD, unfortunately. Some hackers are looking into it apparently.
The WiiU formats the HD in its own proprietary file system and "steals" the whole size of it upon doing so.

Nope, it's not shame!! XD

You're not supposed to use a HDD on Wii/vWii.

That's were you are wrong dear @Omegadrien ,you could use a HDD for storing the games you wish when using the Homebrew Channel (see the URL given by @walterdavid earlier there is a fully written tutorial about that).
I, however, wish to 'share' that same drive between the two systems.

the thing is wii and vwii were never meant to have installed games at all, thats why you dont "instal" games on wii/vwii but just have them on the usb/sd card in iso or wbfs format, you never "instal" them like you do on wiiu, there is no game on nand on wii/vwii with exception of wiiware and VC titles.

having a game iso or in wbfs format on usb/sd is as much as an isntall has having a rom and an emulator, you dont isntall the rom in the emulator.

@cruplezone it is not the case whether or not it is hard but the question is it possible. #read
@ItsKipz thank you for sharing this information, do you happen to know the threads name or where I can view some more information?
@pedro702 thank you, I did know that was the case but if there was a bypass or some sort was more or less the question (why not using a partition on that specific HDD? Just throwing it out there).

Or wait, Dimok is working on a way to share drives between vWii and Wii U.

Is this true? Can I have the thread too, to get information? This is a difficult feat so the chances of it to sucess aren't too much, but still, if this was achieved, damn, it'd be perfect. As I dreamed of being able to do this yesterday. This way you could have GCN, Wii and Wii U games all in one HDD. 3 generations in one.

Is Dimok working only for Fat32 support or is there the possibility of NTFS support? Since the Wii itself supports NTFS harddrives for wbfs game file playback via Usbloader gx..that way i'll be able to use the same harddrive for backups of all 3 f my consoles..if it does come obviously

No, but fat32 has many benefits and should be used over NTFS if at all possible.

Yeah I wonder myself that. It seems my Wii U doesn't recognize the FAT32 of my drive, but the Wii perfectly does, which is weird..

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
