So yeah, I'm an idiot (Ok, not THAT much of an idiot, considering I got the base for only $5), I got a gameboy player. You know, one of those devices that turns your Gamecube into PURE AWESOME!!!!!

Anyway, I knew I needed software for it, but I kinda didn't do my research and I didn't realize how expensive some of these discs can get...

BUT ANYWAY! This is a site all about pirac-I mean homebrew. Is there a homebrew method to booting the gameboy player without the disc? I hope there is, probably will be cheaper to get the stuff for the homebrew then a disc it self.

Or, you know... someone who is kind could just... give/sell me the disc...

There is no homebrew app that enables the GBA player. You'll either need the disc or an GCM/ISO image of that disc to boot with a modded GameCube.

However if you don't have a GameCube that has been modded with a mod chip then it will likely cost you more to get a mod chip and have it installed then to simply buy the disc. Soft mod methods involving Action Replay or SD media launcher will also likely cost you more then what the original disc was worth. So even if there is a homebrew app that enables it, you won't have a way of starting that app.

Either way you're gonna need to plunk done some more cash before you can use it.

When I realized I could get a Gameboy Player (without disk) for 10$ and that it was 30$ just for the disk as people were price gouging, I spent ~12$ on an XenoGC then 10$ on a GameBoy Player. by using a "backup" of the boot disk, it only cost be 22$ to play GameBoy games on my GameCube. the day price gouging of the boot disk's stops, I will be getting myself an original boot disk. I do not feel bad one bit about doing this as price gouging does not fly with me.

I would go the modchip route as it is cheaper nowadays and has the extra benefit of being a modchip (backups, homebrew from disk)

Sorry to necro this thread, but I'm looking for a solderless modchip for gamecube, or a soft-mod way to use Gameboy Player from either ISO or mini DVD-R.

Solderless modchip does not exist for GameCube. Softmod requires you to own either BBA, SD Media Launcher/Gecko, or cheat devices like Max Drive Pro (all which cost more than modchip).

I bought a Xeno GC a while back for like 5 bucks and soldered it. First time soldering too, my job was pretty shitty but it worked out nicely. The Xeno is quite easy to solder: no wires, just a lay it on the board on the specified place and solder the holes, which are quite big even.

I bought a Gecko SD Media Launcher, and have Swiss installed on it, but every version of the ISO, GCM, BIN, etc and nothing boots up the Player. How can I get the ISO (or variants of) working? I'm using a 2GB SD card as FAT in slot 2, but I've tested slot 1 as well. It's a full-sized card, not a micro. 32KB cluster size. Any tips? Perhaps a sspecific swiss version is required? And is there a way I can autoboot Swiss?

You can get Japanese discs from ebay at a reasonable price if your GC is set up to read Japanese discs.

XenoGC is a drive mod chip so I had to burn the US Gameboy Player ISO (my console is US region) to a mini DVD-R and that was it. The XenoGC will read it just fine

Some games are buggy if played in the wrong region setting.
Most likely the JP Gameboy Player ISO would work, but there isn't much point.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
