In all honesty, I prefer Log Horizon more than SAO since it focuses not only on single character development, but they also include other supporting characters rather than centralizing the whole story directly to the protagonist alone.

couldnt get through more than a few episodes of Log Horizon.

Log Horizon, for how much it gets compared to SAO, requires a very different type of appreciation I think, though I do like both in different ways. SAO, to me, is a fantasy story that just happens to be based in a game, plays upon game mechanics every so often but for all intents and purposes could be set in a generic fantasy world. Story is king in SAO.

In Log Horizon this is kinda flipped on its head. Log Horizon is much more based upon the mechanics of the world itself, closely replicating that of a game. Log Horizon is more so about immersing yourself in the world, seeing what the characters get up to and every so often the serious studies it brings up, like a certain cult in S2 and a certain guild in S1. Story, while existant in Log Horizon, is for the most part drip fed IMO.

Both are good series, some will appreciate one, some will appreciate the other, some will be able to appreciate both. Ultimately it really comes down to taste, really the only reason people associate them though IMO is they both happen to be set in a game.

As this is cancelled, do you mind to share what you got about asm hacks and stuff? Could be useful for other games with same format. @StorMyu ? @omarrrio ?
The game is literally packed with a PGD, which can be decrypted to a CPK, which can be extracted easily and repacked, there you'll find a simple format for texts(either UTF-16 LE or SHIFT-JIS), either textblocks with fixed byte length or simple pointer to string algorithm, we barely did anything to touch the asm. ALso there are a few strings in the Eboot, in UTF-8.

I'm curious about the work on this game. Mostly stuff relating to the UTF-8. Did it support the single byte Latin? If it didn't, were you able to fix that and how? Reason I ask is there is a game that doesn't support single byte and using the 3 byte characters (wide I guess you would normally call them) is a real pip to insert. It's nothing I would release publicly because I think somebody else is working that game, but I just like messing with it. It doesn't hurt to learn new techniques.

Canceled over a year ago.

Since you worked on this project. I do have two questions. Based on Exorcisamus beta patch release, what's left to be translated? I which folder?!Do i have to translate ONLY the script folder?! Also, is there any way for me to know where/when is a certain file called during game?(so that i can check up if the edit done by me was done correctly)

Thank you!

I have no idea what patch you're talking about, sorry. Not something I was involved in. And no, we never found a way to figure out when particular files are used in game. The plan was to do a single pass on the entire script, and then edit as we went through the game.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
