Heard this on the radio this morning, although according to the news reporter it was Virgin who gave them away so erm they got free publicity!

Yeah, I screwed up the topic. Meant to put 'rewards patient UK gamers'. It was obviously a one-off thing. Just wanted to see what people think, I'm not a Sony fanboy or anything.

125 Gamers got a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV each worth £2,500, a total of over £310K.

Only the first gamer in the queue got one straight away, the others will recieve theirs next week.
After that they all got free taxi rides home.

Thats some generous gift.

BBC source said:
The queue of gamers seemed small compared to previous launches of consoles and there appeared to be more press, guests and staff than consumers.

Ray Maguire, head of PlayStation in the UK, said he was "delighted" with the response.

"We have got plenty of stock in shops, so people know they don't have to rush out to secure a console," he said.

Seriously, who are they trying to kid? The reason there wasn't tons of people at the launch is because there aren't tons of people that want a PS3.

Pretty nice of Sony though if it wasn't for that I think it would have been a fairly underwhelming launch, and even so the launch didn't seem as acclaimed as the Xbox360 or Wii over here. Good to see it out over here at long last mind you, not that I plan to buy one for a few years yet lol.

lol. i just bought a PS2. Just because its $100 and not $600. And because i have no reason to get an HD, much less a 46'' which wouldn't fit in my room.

Am I the only person that laughs at the fact that some people in that line may be selling the system and they just got a free tv as well?

Still, good move Sony. Keep those gamers safe. So you can fuck them later.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
