With recent returns of Leon S Kennedy in Resident Evil 6, the games own producer has stated that the chances of a remake of the series second entry is possible if enough fans demand it. Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said ‘Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there's no rumour-mongering or things like that, no, we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now. But if the fans really clamour for it; if there's a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that's something Capcom would take under consideration.’ Resident Evil 2 made its debut on the PSOne in 1998 and since has made its way to the PC, N64, Dreamcast, Camecube. After a Gamecube remake of the original Residen Evil on the Gamecube, fans expected a remake of 2 to follow but was only dealt with a port.

Hadn't seen this posted anywhere so I thought I would see if anyone bites here. Now Capcom of today...the fan support stuff sounds dubious after the whole MML3 fiasco and somehow I imagine the fuckers would sell the B Scenario as DLC. Opinions?

I hope it does get a remake, I've always heard good things about 2 but sadly 2,3, and 5 are the only Resident evil games I missed out on err with no current plans on play 5...

If it does get a remake I hope its on the 3Ds

If they remake RE2, I hope they revamp the controls. Cuz y'kknow the older RE controls are horrible.

you ever tried the N64 version of RE2? it had proper analog controls and from what I recall controlled really well. But tank controls etc I always fet they added a bit to the horror atmosphere with RE games

Most people get used to tank controls quickly. Most. The rest either cannot wrap their heads around it, or won't. Or both.

But if it's a remake with over-the-shoulders camera, the controls should technically update with the new POV.

emigre is known for being a bit of a wind up merchant, he likes getting a reaction so just ignore it lol.

As for resi 2 this should definitely get remade they haven't made a decent resi since code Veronica, everyone since 4 has just been a generic 3rd person shooter with resi characters thrown in. It's about time we get back to the series roots. I might actually make a petition and if we get enough signatures forward it to Capcom

I'm just really sarcastic and enjoy off the course remarks. If I wanted to be a WUM/troll than I'd start shitty threads.

The older RE controls are horrid if you're playing them afresh by today's standards. If a make sorted that out than I'd love to play it.

@[member='clarky'], I haven't played the N64 version. I always stuck to the PSX version because it was the easier version to play. I'll try emulating the N64 version. Are the analog control like RE4? I found RE4 a lot better to control than RE 1-3.

The only reaction he generally gets is one of praise because he makes the best comments on GBAtemp.

That's a quote right there for the DVD release. "Makes the best comments on GBAtemp." - Guild McCommunist.

ANYWAY let's hope they remake it so it plays like RE6.

this is going to be tricky to explain, but no not like re4. depending on where you was on screen you could press the analog stick anyway and the character would go that way and when the camera changes angles would continue that way unti you let go fully from the analog stick. One of those things that is easier to see for yourself, besides the tinny voice acting and horriby compressed fmv's it was an excellent port though

I just want a remake like they did with Resi Evil 1 on the Gamecube. Just spice up the graphics leave the original formula intact

hopefully they don't fuck it up and make it like the recent resident evil games, that would be a disaster and I would forget this remake ever existed.

I'd like a remake, if they done it like the remake of the first for the Gamecube. I don't trust Capcom though. If they done it, I'd expect it to be stripped, with the B scenarios being DLC, Hunk's scenario being DLC, Tofu being DLC. Wouldn't suprise me to see them shoving forced co-op in there like they have with the new games.

The fans HAVE been begging for a RE2make for the better part of a damn decade. I don't see anything coming from this. Just another way for them to not do it, then blame the fans for it.

And if they miraculously do remake 2, please please PLEASE make it like the RE1 remake (same controls, made pretty, expanded, maybe some retcons). If it follows in vein with the latest "over-the-shoulder, single linear path, SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT LOLZ I GOT PILES O AMMO, now mash buttons for a quicktime event" formula, I've lost all hope for the series. RE2 was glorious, and should not be bastardized.

If they were to remake the games, a new control scheme would be absolutely necessary.

I understand that they were dealing with the limitations of the time, and by constricting the player's movement, they were attempting to add to the horror, but those controls make the older games damn near unplayable. Even if they wouldn't want to use the over the shoulder perspective, it's been 15 or so years since the first game came out - surely something better has come along in that time.

They remade RE1? Is that the DS version? I think it's generally a good remake, considering the graphics capability of the chosen platform... plus it had new content and mechanics.

I wasn't able to finish it though, lol. Actually, I've played most of the older titles and yet the only RE i've managed to finish is Revelations... hmm, I wonder why. I suppose it's the dodge mechanic that saves me most of the time. On older titles, you get cornered, you bleed. A bit or a lot depends on how well you maneuver or if you got some badass weapon, but inevitably you bleed.

I think he's referring to the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil, which retconned some details of the story (like Wesker's "death").

Resident Evil DS is a straight port of the PSX one, not a remake.
