I'm looking on how to update the emunand to 9.5 but, I'm not completely sure how to do it. Also, Is there any benefit on updating it to 9.5?

Actually, no benefit, as the new firmware is 9.6 so even with 9.5, you wouldn't be able to do a system transfer or access shop. So, if you already have 9.0/9.2 for now, it's enough.

Just use it with emunand 9.0 for now, and wait until Gateway team release an updated launcher which works with emunand 9.6.

If I remember right, no game yet require 9.0, so it won't require 9.5 anytime soon (except maybe Xenoblade which is a N3DS game, but we don't even know if it'll work on Gateway, so it's not a big deal for know).

Pokemon Shuffle doesn't work on 9.2, but it does on 9.5. Didn't test it on 9.4 though.

It's a free-to-play if I'm right, so I hardly consider that a game, especially when they is already one released a while ago but I forgot the name (and it's probably why it require an higher firmware version).

By the way, does someone tried this method (would require an hardmod to test it in case something goes wrong, so better not test it if you don't have one) :

I thought of another workaround based on the download play method but it would require to buy an old second hand 3DS compatible with the gateway (4.x one). As you can install .cia to sysnand (if you don't setup any emunand), the trick would be to install an eshop game with 9.0 firmware (Sugar.Rush.3D.JPN.eShop.3DS-BigBlueBox is said to have 9.0.0J firmware) on the old 3DS sysnand.

The game might not require 9.0 to run but would probably not run on 4.x sysnand so I bet the game would ask for an update, which would update the old 3DS to 9.0J. Then, the trick of the download play with a compatible game should ask the N3DS (client) to accept the 9.0J update to play the game.

Note that I never tried this method, but I suppose it would work. It would require a hardmod to check if a 4.x sysnand could be updated with a eshop game (eshop games mean you should always have the last firmware if you can access eshop to download them, but as http://3ds.essh.co/ also list the firmware of eshop games, I suppose they also have a firmware update in them, for any reason.

No, that's the only thing you can't do. But you can update games with .CIA files and play online with games as long as they're up to date. There's no reason to access the eShop.

Are there any guides for doing this? I'm assuming the .cia's can be installed into emunand?

I'm looking for the same thing. It doesn't have to necessarily be 9.5 for me though, just any newer firmware.

Can you use cart updates to update Emunand?

Okay, so if I were to try to play a Sm4sh 3DS rom on an Emunand with 4.2 FW, it would update it correctly?

Yes, SSB was the recommended way to update emunand to 8.1 when gateway didn't support 9.x at all. The 9.2 rom of SSB should work as well. But you have to be certain that you've formatted emunand before attempting to update it. If you're using sysnand in gateway mode updating from a rom will brick.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
