I wish I could help, sadly I don´t know anything about japanese...
Anyway keep this up! I can´t wait to play it.

P.S. I know you said you wouldn´t answer questions like "when will this finish?" etc., but it would be nice to have an update, at least to know you´re still working on it.

Sorry - just going to be honest and say that not much work has been done in the last few months (or possibly longer.)

My translator (and I) have been busy with various other commitments/projects, so I'm ashamed to say Spice and Wolf has... pretty much been pushed aside for all this time. Our second translator we sometimes used to rely on hasn't been active at all lately, so it has literally been a 1-man (woman) job at the moment. With me doing all the editing and insertion. So this really doesn't help things either.

All that being said, the project is still NOT DEAD and as soon as steady progress starts I might make another post. Thanks for the people who still care about the game, etc.

It´s sad that you´ve not worked on it for a while, I just finished the 8th novel and I was longing to play this, but it´s still great that you haven´t abandoned it.
By the way, to keep people more intrested, I think you should release patches as you go on with the translation: I don´t really know how it´s being translated, but I assume you begin translating at the start and then progress. This way, we could already enjoy 33% of the game!
Anyway, thanks for not abandoning the project!

Maybe it was already answered but can you tell me which Novels does the game cover? does it follow them to the letter?

It doesen´t cover any novel, the devs made it as " Another Spice and Wolf world ", probabilly to allow for multiple choices since it´s a visual novel.

Sad to hear it got back-burnered even more.. but I'm still glad you are doing a little bit!
I appreciate the work you guys are doing, and one day.. I look forward to enjoying this game. :)

Thanks again, and know you will always have at least one, patient and loyal fan.

Hey guys!

It's been quite a while so I was wondering how you and the translation are fairing.
My instincts tell me that nothing notable has happened but, well, hope is the last to die.

That said happy new year and good luck on your projects!

To whoever is translating the game,

Have you considered hiring an outside translator? If you created a donation pool to hire a translator, I would definitely donate to it. And I am confident many others would as well. Just throwing out an idea.

Still waiting,

Horo not Holo please. Or at least give that as a version choice. I can't stand 'Holo' as the translated name. :(

But "Horo" is just a bit of engrish. It's meant to be "Holo".

I don't think it would be possible for them to add in an option for you to switch between "Horo" and "Holo", as that would require adding code into the game. When you say "Version choice", do you mean 2 separate versions of the game, one for weeaboos and one for the people who want the official name?

If you need proof that it's "Holo" and not "Horo", it has been confirmed by Yen Press (The people who hold the license for the LNs) that it's "Holo", and the character spelt her name as "Holo" in the second season.

Wanting Horo instead of Holo, is like prefering Luffy's name to be Ruffy, japanese people are bad at saying L's, my japanese teacher has been living in my country for a while now and she told us that it was very difficult for her to get used to the L sound, since that's a sound they don't originally have.

My name for example, my Japanese friends call me Pauro, but my name doesn't have an R, it has an L.

In some cases it's hard to figure out which name is right or wrong, however once there's an official clarification, I see no point to keep insisting on the wrong one. =O

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a patched ROM
