OK, so earlier today I spent 4 hours trying to get a GC backup to work on NeoGamma. I tried so many freaking things and non worked, so I said "Hey, it used to work months ago, so why not just reinstall everything". Needless to say, I uninstalled all the WAD's and I'm a dumbass. I had priiloader and bootmii installed as an ios so I don't know what to do. I've tried booting with the reset button held down, nothing happened. I've tried a lot of things but nothing happened. I DO have a NAND backup, and the Wii is the older kind (the kind that can install boot2 which I'm also retarded for not installing). Can someone PLEASE help me fix my wii, it means so much to me and the fact that I fux0red it over a GC backup not running kills me on the inside.

So black screen when you turn it on? You probably uninstalled your system menu WAD. If you don't have boot2 Bootmii installed then you're done for unless maybe DeadlyFoez can unbrick it for you.

Black screen, the disk drive checks for disk, but you can tell the internal components aren't really running, super quiet. Yes I uninstalled the system menu WAD. I don't think I have boot2 Bootmii but what should I do if I do have it

Does the disk drive flash at all when the Wii turns on? If so how many times?

Link wont work, what about the NAND files should I leave those?

What NAND files are you talking about? You can't restore your backup without Bootmii.

Only way for him to restore his NAND at this point if Bootmii is actually installed as IOS not boot2 would be to solder an infectus/progskeet to the NAND and manually reflash it that way.

Do you think a savemii dongle would allow him to reinstall his system menu WAD? That is IF he can track one down.... I'm not sure if the recovery mode it boots into is reliant on the system menu WAD or not...

Put the files on the SD, I tried to boot nothing happened though. Am I supposed to boot it in any specific way? I also tried reset booting it.

If bootmii was installed as boot2 it would boot immediately into the menu, no special tricks. Any thoughts on the savemii dongle endoverend? Honestly soldering a programmer to it to reflash isn't worth it. The programmer would cost the same if not more than what a wii console goes for on ebay....

Nope. The SaveMii recovery menu is built into the Wii Menu and will not work unless the Wii Menu is installed.

If your wii does not boot with those files then your only option is to buy a NAND flashing chip or get a professional to flash it. Uninstalling the System Menu WAD is a classic way to get yourself an unrecoverable brick.

Again its not worth it for him to get a programmer. He can get a new wii for $50 where a progskeet would set him back about $60 and if he doesn't have any soldering skills, he'd have to pay out the butt in labor......

Jackudawg looks like your best bet might be to buy a new wii at this point

Might just go for a Wii U at this point, I'm really fucked considering this Wii was huge with my brothers.

Thanks for the help you two, means a lot even if the end result sucks. Guess I'm gonna go play League of Legends now

vWii will do ALMOST everything the original Wii does in terms of homebrew anyways :P. Definitely worth the upgrade :D

EDIT: Not to mention Wii U brew is just around the corner ;)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
