I decided to re-hack my FWii because it stopped playing the DVD backups for games I have and my friend did most of the work the first time so I'm unsure about how much of this works.

Backed up and wiped my SD card which had all my HB channels on it like emulators and NeoGamma (R6 mind you) and stuff. Downloaded ModMii and went through the process of downloading everything I need. Downloaded 57 files (only ran the unfreeze command once) and now it has been stuck on "Patching A handful of BaseWad Component Files" all day. Not sure what that means or why it's not resulting in anything.

Tried searching the forum for this and come up with nothing. Searched Google, which is apparently better for searching this forum than this site is, and found something about proxy settings. Not sure what that is, how to change them or it they're my problem. Just brainstorming.

Ideas? Thanks.

I'm going to check it out too, thanks. I've not been following the scene for a few months now and I haven't played my Wii in a while; just now, while trying to load my USB Loader GX, it says "Games: 0" (I've actually got 150GB worth) and the games won't load. Would you have any idea why?

I haven't updated (still on 4.1E) or anything and the HDD is working fine, so I don't understand what's wrong.
.....If it was working beforehand, and nothing was changed, maybe the drive has become corrupted. If you want to verify your WBFS game partition (or whatever format it may be) I suggest scanning it using Wiimms ISO Tools. If it is a WBFS partition you need to use the wwt's check command to check the formatting and wwt's verify command to check all the WBFS game images.

As for USB Loader GX being full of fail. Well I can't agree. I've been using USB Loader GX from the beginning without fail, but I guess to each their own. In the end use what works and is easiest. The great thing is with multiple choices, you can even use more than one

Btw, what cIOS are most people running on at the moment? Also, is it safe to update via Nintendo, or is there no point in doing so?
.....Well I can't speak for others, but here is my current Wii's State:
CODE
-Firmware / System Menu 4.3U 2010-09-08 Update
-BootMii Beta6 Installed as boot2v4
-Priiloader v0.7 Using r122 hacks_hash.ini
-HBC 1.08
-DVDx v2
-Waninikoko's cIOSx Rev21 (d2x v6):
ÂÂÂÂCIOS249 with IOS56 Base
ÂÂÂÂCIOS250 with IOS57 Base
-cMIOS rev5 (GameCube) Using MIOS V10
-Herme's CIOS Rev4:
ÂÂÂÂCIOS202 with IOS38 Base
-Herme's CIOS Rev5.1E MOD by Rodries:
ÂÂÂÂCIOS222 with IOS38 Base
ÂÂÂÂCIOS223 with IOS37 Base
ÂÂÂÂCIOS224 with IOS57 Base
-CIOS236 copy of IOS36 with Trucha Bug, Version check, ES Identify and Nand Access Patched
As for updating via Nintendo...Don't!!! It's more hassle than it's worth considering all the alternative methods available. The most comprehensive and easiest method of updating your Wii is using XFlax's ModMii. Take a look at it, and I'm sure you'll agree.

I know that it works fine for a few lucky people, but statistically it is awful. Just keep an eye on how many threads are created each week about GX not working properly.

Some people complain about Cfg not having enough eye candy, but a few releases ago the whole GUI changed, making it the ultimate loader for those who want compatibility and a polished appearance.

That depends... You can run homebrew (depends on the homebrew itself) without an SD card, and off of a USB drive only. You will need to have the HBC setup that way, or use forwarding channels that will launch the homebrew off USB for you. Personally, due to many reasons like the inability of some homebrew to function without a SD card present, I recommend using a SD card over going without one with the Wii.

Any ideas how get past this speed bump?
Go into the modmii folder and start "UnfreezeMii.bat". If it doesn't fix your problems close modmii, check if it's up to date (latest is 4.6.1) and if it's not then update it, and then start modmii again and do what you wanted to do again.

What can I expect for file size of a Wii game ISO? (I've seen 4 GB for 2 different games so far...) And is there any way to decrease the file size? So I guess this means I'll need a storage device with 4 GB + of free space...

Question 2: What's the difference between Wii game ISO PAL and Wii game ISO NTSC ?

Even though my Wii has been hacked for over a year, I still don't understand most of it. My wife and kids are on my butt about some games not working, so I need help with the following games:

CSI: Deadly Intent
The Price Is Right 2010
Call Of Duty Black Ops
Resident Evil 4
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars

I feel like a complete idiot, but I'd rather ask than keep being asked if the issues have been fixed. I've done the ModMii application, but its not helped.

Already tried running unfreezemii.bat. It did nothing in this case. And I just downloaded the most recent ModMii a couple days ago. The version is 4.6.1.

Still, I am in a quandary. Any other ideas? What does the patching of a handful of basewad component files actually mean? Is there a way to do what it does without using ModMii?

Thanks.

Will a 4gb microsdhc with an adapter work?

I don't see why not. The memory is in the card. The adapter just reroutes the connector pins so they fit a larger slot. Pretty sure I've done it before with the microSD card from my phone.

I tried downloading 4.6.2 Beta and it's redownloading everything. Hopefully when it's done it won't get stuck on "Patching A handful of BaseWad Component Files."

Not sure exactly what changes were made from 4.6.1 to 4.6.2 but I guess I'll know soon enough.

Oh, might be pertinent to mention that file 27 failed both times with both versions. I had to click through a bunch of Microsoft .NET errors, then run unfreezeme.bat. ModMii said something about MD5 verification or something. Not sure, it's gone already.

That mean anything?

So I guess this means I'll need a storage device with 4 GB + of free space...Standard Wii game ISO images are 4699979776 bytes for a single layer game and 8511160320 bytes for a dual layer game. These are the the full size ISO images. Standard Wii game discs often contain unneeded data to fill up any leftover space. Such images can be scrubbed to remove the unneeded junk to reduce the image size - if you want to learn more about scrubbing Wiimm's has an excellent write-up available on his site: Scrubbing of Wii ISO images. Suffice it to say, you can use any Wii game manager like Wii Backup Manager for Windows to scrub the file down to a smaller sized image, most often a WBFS file or a WBFS image on a WBFS formatted HDD partition. As for what file size to expect after scrubbing...this depends on how large the actual game in question is.

QUOTE(Jahames @ Jul 5 2011, 03:51 PM) .....Question 2: What's the difference between Wii game ISO PAL and Wii game ISO NTSC ?
As for the technical difference between NTSC and PAL signals...don't worry about it. The main differences that will affect you are the regional differences. Some games will be different for each region be it a mild difference in language, or even a major storyline edit or game mode availability. The differences will vary on a game to game basis. Often the most annoying difference is that some games are not available in all regions.

As far as modding differences go. Well for the most part, any region game can be played on any region Wii. There are some obstacles like when concerning Korean Wii's, but for the most part, it is not an issue. The only warning I would give is make sure that any out of region game you play is either scrubbed with no update partition, or you have Wii updating blocked, as out of region firmware, mainly the system menu, can mess up and even brick your Wii. If you follow standard modding practices, you will be safe.

Run this syscheck Syscheckb11. It tells what bases your cios are running and some other useful info.

The files that modmii install should work for all those games. Most of them should work with the d2x cios with base 56 which is usually installed to slot 249. Black Ops needs a cIOS with base 57 which is usually installed to slot 250.
