XFlak said:start ModMii, from the main menu, enter "S", then "3", then "UD", then follow the prompts
when ur done with that, from ModMii's main menu, enter "S", then "4", then follow the prompts to help u convert 1 or more games to s/uneek format
be sure to read all the on screen hints during the process
when ur done, insert your hard drive and sd card into ur wii, launch bootmii (it will launch automatically if u were able to install bootmii @ boot2), and be patient, loading s/uneek the first time can take 5-10 minutes, u should see activity on your hard drive, but other than that it will seem like a black screen. The 2nd time loading s/uneek will be much faster
MikeGold said:When I hacked my Wii I had absolutely no idea about how it works or even what am I doing. It all worked fine with a step by step guide from here. Though I want to know what I'm doing and I've started to read about CIOS. I wanted to check if my current CIOS is up to date, so I've downloaded Modmii and created a download according to what I needed. I've noticed that a few files on my card are in the lower revision than the ones found by Modmii.
Here is how it looked:
Modmii -> Currently on my card and in my system
* IOS80v6944[FS-ES-NP] -> IOS80-64-v6943[TB+NAND] ...These are effectively the same....
* cIOS223[37-38]-v4 -> DOESN'T EXIST ...wouldn't hurt to install this, although i don't know how necessary it will ever be for you now that d2x is here....note: technically, there is a v5 to the 223 cIOS, but the v4's 37/38 combo is arguably better...goes to show that updates are not always preferred.
* cIOS249/250[56/57]-v21d2x3 -> cIOS249/250[56/57]-v21d2x2 ...the only difference between d2x2 and d2x3 is NAND emulation improvement; if you plan on ever utilizing Mighty Channels/Triiforce, then i'd say update these....
* RVL-cmios-v4_WiiGator_GCBL_v0.2 -> DOESN'T EXIST ...only install this if your wii can read backup DVD's and you have a desire to play backup game-cube discs (MIOS is for gamecube)....
So, here comes my questions:
1. If I'll install new wad's it is equal to custom CIOS update? (I don't have to uninstall old ones in the first place?) ...This is correct...no need to uninstall...installing will overwrite...
2. Is this the right way to do the updates? I mean, should I just run ModMii once in a while, generate download and check if the versions are higher than my current ones? ...you can download single cIOS as well...but honestly, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...i don't update anything unless i'm having problems, there's a new fix for an issue that annoys me, or i'm incorporating a new feature which requires a different cIOS configuration...
3. When installing new CIOS wads, should I also start ISO234-v5-Mod as well to check for updates? ...do you mean IOS236?...to my understanding, 236 is 236...the v# is the installer....once you have it installed, there is no update...
Thanks in advance.
syschk...MikeGold said:It did. I have downloaded cios installer and tried to install those wads using it, but it was giving me error -2. So Ive used online update in it and now I have absolutely no clue what files I have installed. Is there any way to check it?
Thanks for the response!XFlak said:Dude, softmodding is the way to go. Nowadays, most ppl with Modchips decide to also softmod because of all the extra bells and whistles it offers.
Softmodding is really really easy, just use "ModMii"! Even someone with no experience can finish softmodding their Wii using ModMii in 0.5-2hrs
Use Fat32 on your HDD, wii backup manager, use ModMii d2x cios and configurable usbloaderraylgo said:Super newbie here asking a few questions. I've read the stickies and followed them to the best of my ability but I'm still quite confused. I have a Wii on 3.2u, got started on the COMPLETE SOFTMOD GUIDE and I now have Homebrew Channel, Homebrew Browser, a few cIOS (waninkoko's 17 and Hermes ver 4 AND 5), trucha bug, and YAWMM. But I'm not sure what else to do or in what order I should do it...
Should I upgrade my Wii to 4.2? How do I update? Would that invalidate the cIOS and trucha bug already installed? I was just aiming for loading backups from the USB. What else do I need? What are the advantages of the different versions of the cIOS? Do I really need them all or just a few?
I was planning on using WBFS and USB Loader GX 1.0. Can the WADS and other stuff be stored in a 2 GB SD card? I mean will 2 GB be enough to store homebrew and wiiware/VC or should I use FAT 32 and store WADS in the harddrive?
Sorry if my questions seem all over the place. I'm new to Wii hacking and reading different guides + doing what they say got be a bit puzzled as to what I really need to do. Should I just use ModMii to simplify everything? o_0
