I'd love TaeWong to join again and help us with this translation. Even if he's a bot.
Unbanned for profanity and becoming a fan translation propaganda...
Yes, and you want to look forward to the Poopymon ROM hack. Unlock that thread. And they think that the headquarters of Nintendo in Eastern Europe are in Moscow!

We share similar translation methods:
According to Google Translate, jackass in Portuguese translates to idiota.

Google translation is wrong, no matter how you look at it. It can barely translate from French to English (or vice versa) so I can't imagine a complex language like japanese.
Especially in Ni No Kuni who uses different style of writing, like the first character you're introduced (your friend who made the car, omg spoiler alert from the 1min of the game !)
iirc he's speaking a japanese from a different part of Japan (if someone more skilled in this than I am feel free to post about it btw)

StorMyu, read that post again, and check for the dates, the quality model I'm striving for, and my super dangerous deadly translation/hacking techniques I mentioned. Don't you smell anything... fishy? Come on.
I haven't given up on my humanity yet.
That said, I need to get a better sense of humour, really.
At least, it's not a totally pointless post. "It's about sending a message" dixit Joker.

Hello all,

It's a good news for english people if someone try to do something on the game now.

Now, after a year of hard work on it for the french patch i could say:

- The PS3 dialogs are really useful and really good on the DS game. All the exclusive things on DS are "modded" in the PS3 version, but the story is here, even in the PS3 handbook. It's easy to grab the subtitles on the PS3 game, compare with the google translation and put the "real"/"good translated" things from the PS3 on the DS. But sentences are not in the same timing in the two games, you have to find sentences and place them your own way.

- The dialogs for all the quests (not in PS3) are very easy to translate with google translation, and a "brain" after to change that shit to correct sentences. No dialogs are very complex, and Japanese =google=> French is correct but Japanese =google=> English =brain=> French do a better work.

- The way each character speak is in the ps3 version. It's easy to use the same. I haven't seen real differences between the two versions for the way they speak.

- Read all the PS3 handbook help a lot to understand the exclusive parts on the DS.

- The game is very easy. I just say : all is explain in dialogs, you don't need to think, this game is built for children.

On the french patch, we (we are two) have translated near 50% of the game.
Things difficult like the casino, the jungle town, the dragon lair, xanadu are already done only on the story.

But now, i spend now not enough time on the translation to say it can be achieve by us two only...
wait and see.

I don't really see how you can localize the Mirant quests, all other side-quests, the puzzles in the DS-exclusive islands, the dialogue in the shared ones which was swapped between characters and places all over the place.... and the dream world (!) just using google translator (which is NOT kind with Japanese).
And the DS-exclusive stuff doesn't exist in the English PS3 book, besides a passing mention "there was a continent here with a place named Xanadu and Dragon's Lair who knows what they seemed like, but it went boom. you'll visit a small chunk that was left out of it and find only a rock. the end." and it's more than some locations.

The only way I can see this work is that you make stuff out of your own imagination and fill in the blanks. I wouldn't call it a translation per se.
No matter how we (on our side) disagree with the machine translation solution, I wish you good luck in your endeavors, and we'll be certainly more than glad to help you out with our script whenever we finish the translation, like you did help us before.

There's a french, italian and spanish project.
I don't think there's a translator for english version.
And basing a translation off another one is bad and will result in missing details, or lose text meaning, so it's really waiting for an english-japanese translator.

As long as nobody officially announce he is working on english, the first post will say not started.
I updated the first post with links and progress for the three other languages.

it was started (hacking is done), but the translator(s) left.
so there's no translated text yet.

the extracted text is available as spreadsheet, it's waiting for someone who want to help.
I could add the link to the first post, it will have more view.

There is, in fact, some progress for the English translation, but there is a lot to be translated and our translators have a tendency to disappear...
We do, however, have quite a couple of often appearing UI images translated and I'm coordinating with Pleonex (the hacker) to get everything appearing correctly.
I believe the Google Drive folder is open for anyone to see, which will mainly show that we've still got a long way to go :P
I guess the status is "Started", but also "On Hold" (again).

Edit: Cyan, thanks for the extra publicity :)

I edited the first post to reflect that. as the text is extracted it can be considered a start.
If you need anything about the first page, just ask and I'll see it (I'm following this thread too :P).

Good luck on this project and to the current translator, even if it's progressing slowly it's fine.

I really dont wanna (be responsible to)translate the whole thing but looking at the text I wouldnt mind working on some of it. So do I edit the document on the google drive page to add translations? Or do I have to upload revised copies

I can't help but wonder if this project has stalled due to its gross mismanagement. From the sound of it, it's nothing more than an offshoot of the JP-ES translation, which itself seems to have had its share of problems including an overzealous "producer" and rampant use of machine translation. And the entire thing is open for anyone to edit? Really? Who do you expect would actually want to join your team at this point? No competent JE-EN translator would want to donate a huge chunk of his/her time towards this.

I'm a JP-EN translator and I've been watching this "project" for well over a year now, wondering if you guys are ever going to pull it together or should I just go ahead with my own translation, because I've been toying with the idea and I think the game is worth it. But it has to be done right, and it has to be done professionally, and everything about this is everything but. Pardon my frustration, but I think your group has done far more harm here than good.
