Hello, I have a n3dsxl with sound but no video, I purchased it this way so I don't know how it got to this point. This is what I have done.

1. Updated to 11.4 using Nintendo's recovery menu (L, R, up, A) and it updated successfully. Screens worked on the recovery menu but when I tried to start with normal booting it just gives me sound.

2. Install b9s via hardmod. I successfully installed b9s and can run recovery mode, even luma configuration screen loads but after that I keep getting sound with black screen.

3. Run ctrnand 9.2 via recovery using decrypt9 and everything seem to installed correctly but again I keep getting sound with no video

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sadly that sounds like a hardware issue.

Even if it loads Nintendo's default recovery mode? Both screens look perfect, touchscreen works and it evens connect to the Wi-Fi. :/

If ctrtransfer doesn't help then there's not much else you can do... It can't be a software issue because ctrtransfer completely replaces the 3DS software.

Maybe the brightness level corrupted and it's set to 0, (however, it should have been set back to normal with the ctrtransfer). Anyway, since it has sound, try changing the brightness level from the home menu using the sound as a guide.

EDIT: You can also check if that's the issue by pointing an strong light towards the screen, and you will see a shadow of the image.

Have you tried what I said?

Yes bro, no video at all, screens are completely off. Even when it runs Luma for the first time it asks you for the screen brightness and I have tried every setting with no luck. I think is more of a nand issue. Maybe if there is a way of using another n3dsxl nand in the future that might fix the issue

Luma brightness is a completely different thing as it doesn't change how the system brightness works afterwards. If you already tried to go to the home menu brightness selector without success, then it can be several other things:
1. It may be possible that you have a flashcard inserted which may prevent the home menu to launch. (Unlikely as you said you bought it that way)
2. Something in your home menu is corrupted, try renaming the "Nintendo 3DS" folder in your SD card to "Nintendo 3DS old" and see what happens.

In any of the cases, it's most likely not a problem with the NAND, as the recovery mode data is stored in the nand as well.
Actually, you haven't told us if you can hear the cursor when moving it or not in the home menu, or just the background music (first case it's a problem with the screen, second case it's a problem with the home menu crashing).

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
