Out of curiosity I found some of the game patches online ( like update 1.2 for Pokemon ) is there anyway to install this patch without using e-shop ? if so people could install the patches even on 7.2.0. if they want to play online.

Pokemon Y updated my 2DS from 6.0U to 6.1U, and I'm staying there since Gateway is progressing so amazingly. I'm hoping 6.x firmware gets supported within the next year. I don't have any use for eShop, since I prefer retail physical carts over e-purchasing. Those have no trade-in value.

Yes 80 dollars for a device that let's u play every 3ds game out right now and 3ds games on average cost about 40 dollars so the gateway pays for itself for 2 3ds games yeah expensive *sarcasm*

More like 3-4 3DS games, depending on what SD card you buy. Have to remember that's part of the cost as well.

CJL18: ok so you've convinced me! I really just didn't feel it'd be worth 71.50 for a flash cart because it seemed like they were still having problems with it and i didn't want an incompatible cart for my firmware version but I think i can swing it since it will save me more money in the long run. Especially since like you said the price for a retail game is more than double for 2 vs. paying the price for two games and an sd card. It is cheaper for me to do that than to continue with my expensive hobby like i have been and use up my only source of income on games. I heard it supports multi rom now...how many can you get on a 32gb card?

There is, if you have a hardware NAND access mod. Someone in another thread updated his retail NAND to 7.2.0-17, downloaded said updates from the e-shop, then downgraded via the hardware mod.

Was in reply to this question....

But still the people with NAND access is probably the very lower minority, of either people who got bricked and got it installed along with the unbricking, or people who can do it themselves, it's probably best not to start the whole "so where is the NAND access mod app to install these updates" :P

gamesquest1 I realize it was an answer to his question. I also realize not many have the mod done. I was just saying that there is a possible way albeit not very practical/useful to the average end user.

It depends on what games on average a 3ds rom is about 500mb to 2gb with some as high as 4gb I have a 16 GB card and I can fit about 15 so with a 32 u would be able to fit about 20-25 easy

Good day, ladies and gentlemen. Question here please.

I have a R4HDSC for the 3DS (the uhh flashcart to use so I can play NDS games). With this update, 7.2, I'm having doubts if I should update my 3DS or not or I'm having the risk of my R4HDSC not working if I update. My current firmware version is 7.1 I believe. So a little help here please.

If I update my firmware to the latest (7.2), will my R4HDSC still work for my 3DS (actually 2DS). Please help me out.

What's the website on the cart?

Scroll down to the NAND pinout section. CLK point is easiest to access from the other side of the board from the rest of the points as well. Else, you need to remove your game cart slot to access it.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm not updating my 3DS.

Which is actually OK because until there's a 7.1 Gateway all I'll use it for is animal crossing. (new leaf, not wild world)

you do realize the update came out 1 month ago?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
