Which version of mame do you have, rk? I know the earlier versions had that issue, but afaik version 0.4 fixed that (0.4 is also the latest version I know of).

it's version 0.4 , is it suppose to autoscroll when you get to the last item?

@TheRealStatic I was going to do a little work on it until my laptop decided to get a crack in the LCD. Hopefully in a couple weeks.

What games work well on 0.4? I tried Donkey Kong, which ought to be easy for the Wii to handle. The framerate was poor and the sound was glitchy.

Hard to say. There's a list with all supported roms here...but just because it's supported doesn't mean it runs well.

There was a nice list of good, playable games coming along on tehskeen...but it kinda got lost with the rest of the forum.

All I really care about are the "konami" beat 'm ups (asterix, simpsons, turtles 4 & 5, X-men), and they play out great. And vendetta (no one I know heard of it...but it was the best beat 'm up experience ever).

And of course...TAPPER!!!!

Well, since TehSkeen is gone and I don't have an actual release for the new site, might as well post an update here.

Hardware acceleration! It's going places! Not quite the right place, but it's a start!

nice to see you back on this project !

but what do you mean by "hardware acceleration" ? isn't wii-sdl already using video & audio hardware acceleration ? you are expecting more ?

The way SDL works is everything is written pixel by pixel to a single texture in software and that one texture is written to the framebuffer. This new way will avoid having to decode all the textures in software, which should give us a nice speed boost. It should also make games with a lot of texture scaling (like Out Run) faster as well since the GPU will be doing all of that now.

That is, once I get the Wii's funky block layout for textures working my way. And because MAME uses several different texture types, it might take a while.

So, erm...does that mean we have to tie down our wii's before loading the emulator?

Glad to see so many people still waiting for a release. Sorry for the long hiatus.

In other news, more progress!

You can kind of see the letters there, so I'm doing something right!

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
