I guess this is kind of offtopic, but can aureinand boot on a 10.3 system?

I want to make a backup of my system before I downgrade it and loose my nintendo ID. can I do a hardware mod to read the sysnand to a .bin file and then use that as emunand? and/or later restore to my sysnand after I have a9lh aquired.

You will not lose your NNID by downgrading to 9.2
you need 9.2 or a9lh to backup NAND.
A hardmod is needed to dump above 9.2

If it can, you don't need to downgrade. It can't as there is no ARM9 kernel exploit on 9.5+ . You can install a hardmod to inject or extract you sysnand regardless of firmware version

what I needed to confirm is a hardware mods nand backup is the same as one aquired through emunand9 and the like, would that be correct?
I wanna recall I had to do a system setup after downgrading my other system, and this is my main system so not taking any chances.

the NAND Backups should be the same as you can restore an EmuNAND9 SysNAND dump via hardmod.

I have only recently got aureinand cfw and I have some questions about aureinand:

1) Is aureinand being actively updated while reinand isnt?
2) How do you know your version of aureinand?
3) With the introduction of an aurei folder with the latest updates how does one now update to the current version? Do the files in the previous sd/rei folder now just move to sd/aurei?

1. Technically yes. Rei has stated he's been busy with life recently, so it's understandable.
2. You don't :P You just have to know. If you don't know, just update to the latest version. (Well, on older versions at least.)
3. Yes, but remove the "patched_" files from there.

1)Both are being updated. ReiNand is just slow to create new commits. Life happens. :P
2)Press SELECT when you boot your 3DS to boot into the options. It will show you your AuReiNand version at the top.
3)Copy firmware.bin and firmware90.bin as well as any payload that can be found in your SDcard\aurei\payloads. Afterwards, paste those files in the NEW version. Then delete the OLD aurei folder as well as the OLD arm9loaderhax.bin(or AuReiNand.dat)(which is at the root of your SDcard) and paste the NEW aurei folder and the NEW arm9loaderhax.bin(or the NEW AuReiNand.dat)

Thanks again Supster131! I just want to check the last point though, you only remove ""patched_" files if you had any to start off with right? After using pialects guide I have 2 flags (updatedsysnand and usepatchedfw). I understand why I need updatedsysnand but im not sure why usepatchedfw was needed, do you mind helping me understand that?

Thanks fr3quency, I tried booting while holding select and nothing happened. Im using aureinand+arm9lh+o3ds with custom splash screen for top and bottom screens

Then yeah, you're on an old version of AuReiNAND.
Feel free to update. If you didn't have have files that include "patched_" then don't worry about it.

Are you running the latest 3.14 version? Hold SELECT and then press the power button. It should show you AuReiNand's options:

If you don't have the latest version, download it from here: https://github.com/AuroraWright/AuReiNand/releases and just paste firmware.bin and firmware90.bin inside the aurei folder. You don't need anything else(unless you have payloads in aurei\payloads\)

Thank you! I managed to update aureinand to 3.14. I also removed my sd/rei folder. I only had firmware.bin in my rei folder and not firmware90.bin though. Would that be a problem?

Is it actually possible to update those firmware files trough an FTP running actively on the 3ds?
Or better use the conventional "Eject SD card, put in PC and copy" Method?

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
