I've recently bought a used Wii U and the guy who sold it to me installed the homebrew channel + nintendon't + usb loader gx. I haven't tried playing Wii games until now because I didn't have the Y cable yet. I'm using a Seagate FreeAgent Go 640, formatted as FAT32, with a wbfs folder and at first I couldn't get Usb loader to read it ("Usb device not initialized...").
I read in a thread here to change the loader IOS to 58 and it worked, now it shows the Wii games but doesn't load them - it just goes black and then back to the Homebrew channel.
Can anyone help?

I don't think it's compatible... mine is like this:

Plus, I can play GB games in it through Usb Loader, just not the Wii ones...

try using syscheck hacksden edition. it will tell u all ios u have installed. one may be preventing u from u loading games. it will create a log on the root of ur sd card once done.

cfg usb loader. the later versions have ustealth capabilities just like usb loader gx, so if u have 2 hdds plugged in, u won't have issues.

could be the usb cable, hdd, or hdd enclosure. if the wii u is sitting face up where the disc tray is vertical, make sure the cable is plugged into the back right usb port. I don't think u can change the usb port with cfg usb loader, but I could be wrong. that would be indicative of that error.

Just tried to make it work with an USB flash drive and it has the same issues...
"Device not responding" in cfg USB loader
In Usb loader gx it doesn't read it with default settings and while using loader iOS 58 the game shows but doesn't load.

I have a similar drive, and just had to plug it in when Wii mode was booted, but before. I think USB slot matters also.

Thanks everyone, I finally figured it out. I pieced together some info from different forums and tried changing the loader IOS to 58 and the game IOS to 251. It worked :)

glad u got it figured out. I'd have to look at my configuration to know whether I changed the ios - can't remember actually. lol I think it's default for most options aside from where to load the emuNAND from.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

looks like I'm using ios 249 as I just loaded up the app.

Yeah, it was supposed to work with 249, but, for some weird reason, it didn't. Maybe the guy I bought it from messed something up while installing the Homebrew Channel or it has something to do with my hdd, I don't know... But it's working now and the thread is here if anyone else runs into the same problem.
And thank you so much for your continued help, I really appreciate it!

Seems like I always have to change iOS launch settings to get some games working. And it's different for every launcher. I just use Wiiflow for all Wii stuff and Nintendont separately for gc games
