Alphadream went bankrupt so things are looking pretty dark right now. We've seen feats which seemed impossible from a legal perspective happen before like Goldeneye on the Switch, Starfox 2 on the SNES Mini and Smash Ultimate including every character. Nintendo seems to know consumers like Mario RPG games which they've indicated by remaking Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

So is it possible to see remakes and new entries in this series released on the Switch or Switch 2 or am I being stupidly optimistic? Paper Jam was such an underrated gem.

Mario & Luigi is a Nintendo IP, Alpha Dream doesn't own it. If they find the right team to continue development, they can.
Remakes may be difficult depending on whether the contract Nintendo had with Alpha Dream grants Nintendo full ownership of the code, which we don't know the details of.
