Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced, releases November 20th

Nintendo quietly dropped a trailer on their YouTube channel today for a new Legend of Zelda spin-off, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Pitched to Koei Tecmo Games by Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, it will be developed by the same team and use the same hack-and-slash gameplay style as the original Hyrule Warriors. Unlike that title, this will take place firmly in the world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, set during the Great Calamity that took place a hundred years before the beginning of Breath of the Wild. The trailer shows gameplay featuring Link, Zelda, and the four Guardians. According to Koei Tecmo producer Yosuke Hayashi, his team worked closely with the core Zelda team to help capture the look and feel of the world, and that while the original Hyrule Warriors adapted to traditional Zelda conventions, Age of Calamity will break those conventions the same way Breath of the Wild itself did.

I was a life-long detractor of Musou but the original Hyrule Warriors changed my tune. Pretty excited for this.

Looks meh at best.
Same old Warriors shit, just with a new paint work.

I'm good, I can get everything I want from this from a simple playthrough on YouTube and Wikipages, that being the story/lore alone. Gameplay has nothing new to offer.
I agree re-used assets and textures... wohooo.. Meh.

Pretty hyped for this game, just hope it has LAN multiplayer. Had a blast playing co-op Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U with the gamepad screen.

lol Im amazed seeing ppl actually hyping a musou game only b/c its Zelda themed..
That's how the sheeps roll. :P
People nowadays just see Nintendo shit and they flock around it like vultures to a dead corpse.
As if Nintendo was actually anything but respectful to the fanbase to even deserve the praise.

Quote from the other thread:

OMG Yes! Despite being a musou stylized game, this could be considered as a lore prequel in every way. Definitely getting it, loving how are they expanding the lore for this subsaga.
Pretty cunning strategy tying it to a popular and successful real Zelda game to trick/convince Zelda fans into buying yet another musou. Of course, many would have already wanted it either way.

Looks cool af
It's kinda funny how they keep the big announcements for YouTube, tho I do feel like it's because they don't have much to show so they still publish those shitty partner showcases and upload trailers from time to time when they actually have something when it's not enough to fill a Nintendo Direct

I can't imagine this makes many Tempers happy.

I didn't mind HWarriors 1, but I didn't really play it either. My brother did, a lot. While he was home. It looked about what I expected, a Warriors game with a Zelda coat of paint. I still want to play it eventually. But I wasn't really expecting them to want to make another one.

At the very least, this is better than nothing. There was never gonna be a true Zelda game set in the past of BotW.

I personally think this is a great idea for a spinoff that will make Zelda fans happy while Nintendo delays their sequel more. The graphics are also pretty awesome and the best these Warrior games have looked on switch. It will probably even have more story than BotW which will appease those who wanted it.

Its Not difficult to have more plot than no plot at all :P
Still ... This game wont be top notch but it wont be too bad either. If they go the scramble route it will actually be quite nice. I liked the first hyrule warriors although i m sick of all these moussou Games. It s sort of refreshing even if the mechanics are still the same

A 2d or top down game would be infinitely more interesting than this.
Gimme a traditional 3D game, a la Twilight Princess, The Wind Waker, or Majora's Mask. Or a traditional 2D game, in the vein of Link's Awakening or A Link Between Worlds.

As long as it's traditional, and doesn't try to "experiment" with stamina gauges or fragility or motion control or Pouches or resource grinding - none of which should ever be in a Legend of Zelda game.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
