I flashed mine, and ended up half bricking it... and since I have a cyclo, I was unable to execute the recovery code, but luckily my sister had a R4 so I recovered it and tried again, and it flashed!

Flashed a long time ago, before carts could do it themselves.

Remember, flashing does still have its advantages - you'll be able to recover your DS if, for some reason, the firmware is ever damaged.

I flashed my DS Phat because I used a Supercard MiniSD back in the day, but my DS Lite is unflashed because I use an R4 and don't see the need for flashing it.

No, I never flashed it. I didn't even know about DS flashcarts until they already all had PassMe/NoPass (or whatever you want to call it) built in to the carts.
