Hacking Got a 3.0 Wii U with hacked vWii. Should I update to the latest FW? Can I still buy a VC game?

I have a very old, untouched Wii U. Booted it up and found out I am on 3.0.1 (shows how much I used it).

So to fully hack my Wii U and be able to load backups, I should update to the latest FW (5.5.1), and get ANY US title from this list, correct?
Has any title been patched yet? Any suggestions on what to get?

After that, I should be golden, correct?

Or should I stay on 3.0.1 and use some other method?

Thanks all, sorry for the noob question.

Yes update to the latest now since it's the recommended hackable firmware. From there you can download a supported ds vc and install haxchi, brain age is the cheapest so just go with that

Once your all done if you want your wiiu connected to wifi make sure to set the custom Nintendo update blocker dns. That way you can enjoy wifi and online play without Nintendo force updating your console

Sometimes I wonder if updating is always the best idea...

The 3DS had a hackable firmware at 2.1.0 but I don't think an exploit was discovered until after people had updated thus requiring a downgrade in order to fully hack it...

Mind you the 3DS has convenient test points on the PCB for the NAND so people were easily able to swap firmware versions at will with a hardmod...

Lol crap, too late.

But I couldn't get Brain Age any other way, and a VC title is needed to do what I want :-(

Everything so far is doable on the newest FW, that's just a big maybe...

I mean, we have OTP key access which is what the 3DS 2.1.0 downgrade was for so maybe there's just no need for any old versions on the Wii U...

Hope you enjoy your hacked Wii U!

Definitely check out the "Brazilian Method" to install games to USB (I really hate that name...)

Just found out he's doing alright, doing a lot of complaining too, rightfully so. Who wouldn't complain after having a seizure and being hospitalized?
