Fresh details and new screens for Resident Evil 6

A recent post over on the Capcom Unity blog has delivered some new details regarding Resident Evil 6 that included insight into the game's control scheme, locations, characters, and enemies. In addition, a fresh batch of images from the game have been released.

Honestly after RE5 and Operation Racoon City I jusnt don't see Resident Evil as a relevant Survival Horror series anymore. Plus its hard to be hopeful of a Capcom product these days, but hey I could be wrong which would be fantastic.

I agree with you, it's not survival horror anymore, but Capcom isn't labeling that way now, they call it "survival action" or "action horror" or something like that (can't remember now :P)

I'm assuming thats what your were reffering to? Anyway its a shame what they have done to the series. As a child Resident Evil scared me enough to regret choosing the basement as my bedroom. It was never a fear of zombies or monsters either, it was a feelng of helplessness. In the old RE games you weren't really afraid of the monsters themselves, you feared how you were going to survive them with your limited ammo and health. When RE4 switched to a more action approach that fear was lost. However RE4 did create an incredibly eerie and unsettling atmosphere. Even after clearing all the enemies out from the village and surrounding farm areas I was always very cautious when passing back through them. I had a feeling like I was never really alone like something was just watching and waiting...

I'm rambling and I apologize. I realize everything I said is subjective and will vary for everyone

When RE4 switched to a more action approach that fear was lost.

This, so much this. Don't get me wrong I really like RE4 but it's just not the same anymore, and got much worse with RE5.
This whole fear of feeling incapable to properly fight the monsters is what makes Amnesia - The Dark Descent so great.

Except Resident Evil was never like Amnesia in the slightest. I personally got through RE 1-3 guns blazin' like I did in RE4, the difference being that in RE4 aiming actually works.

The fact that we deal with more then 4 zombies on each screen is actually *good* in my opinion - what Capcom needs to work on is storytelling proper level design and environments choices. RE used to be flooded with claustrophobic environments, and a village in the middle of nowhere doesn't exactly fit that description (I'm talking to you, RE4 and 5).

Revelations seems to be doing it "right" due to the restricted area of the ship and tight corridors, let's hope that RE6 will do the same with narrow passages and some in-door action.

Trying to run through RE1 and 2 killing everything has a good chance of leaving you with no ammo, especially if its your first playthrough and you don't know where much is. RE3 was a little more lenient by giving you a tool to create your own ammo if you found gun powder. If you used the shotgun as your main weapon and used the powder to make as much ammo for it as you could you were set. Code Veronica went back to the formula of making you conserve and did it even more punishingly.

RE6 is doing so much wrong already I doubt it will do anything right. Zombies now use machine guns and such, theres a whole cover shooting system now, You can dive around like max fucking payne. It just doesn't look promising

As I said earlier - 1,2,3 and thanks for reminding me about Code Veronica, guns blazin'.

Conserving ammo is perhaps an issue for those who couldn't aim at the head or tackle/ignore zombies they didn't need to kill. I assure you, you can play through those games without much difficulty.

Adding a cover system benefits gameplay because if you were in a Zombie Apocalypse situation, I assure you you'd look for damn cover. Haven't seen any shooting zombies, perhaps they're some sort of millitia operatives. If there are infact shooting zombies then it's dumb, but I'm willing to overlook that if the story will be good.

All in all, I won't judge the book by its cover and I'm waiting impatiently for the release.

Thank you for proving my point, you could not go through those games just shooting everything.

And as for adding a cover system to have shoot outs with zombies its just plain retarded. Its just gears of war with rotting enemies and a protaganist who likes to beat on giant rocks in his spare time.
Also if you read the article you will see that zombies using guns is confirmed, Redfield is even seen having a firefight with some in the trailer

I'm definitely looking forward to it, provided it's more like RE4 than 5. 5 just felt really boring. I didn't exactly think 4 was balls-to-the-wall scary but it created suspense. 5 was just trying too hard to be a hardcore (not meaning that in the "casual/hardcore" sense) action shooter, except that Capcom forgot that the shooting mechanics are absolute utter shit for such a thing. Also the campaign was like 5 hours long compared to like the 20 hours I put into RE4 (or I thought I did, it's been a while). People criticize CoD for a 5 hour campaign but at least it has a huge multiplayer section to make it up to you. Replaying the campaign to get more items which basically just give you dumb costumes and weapons that just make the campaign easier to run through is absolutely retarded. And Mercs was certainly not amazing, and don't make me laugh with that Versus mode. I'm hoping now they'll properly either go back to RE4 style or abandon the stiff shooting for something a bit more flowy for an action game. I'd prefer the former than the latter but I'd be pleased with both.

Plus I definitely like Leon more than Chris.
