Atlus has released the first full trailer for Etrian Odysey IV. View the two minute clip below. The clip's narrator is Rumi Hiiragi, voice of Chihiro in Spirited Away.

Also be sure and visit the game's official site, which has new background music and an updated gameplay section. The gameplay section shows that the game's monsters are now fully 3D models. As you explore dungeons, you'll encounter "F.O.E," which stands for Field On Monsters. These particularly dangerous beasts can be seen in advance, so you can avoid them.

Looks interesting. Were those hotair balloons I saw? So we might have air battles? Wonder how they'll make that work...boo for 3DS though, it better get localized.

Wow. This is a total game changer. Since time immemorial, dungeon crawlers with this format (First person, grid movement, turn based) have always used 2D sprites. At least, that's what I reckon, unless there's some other obscure game out there that have done 3D dungeon romp before (barring Might and Magic titles on the PC). Those models actually look good, but i'm guessing it's bosses we have to look forward to.

July for JP release, i wonder how long till localization?

at first it was the new 03 BGM music... it vaguely reminded me of handpainted backgrounds that's so Ghibli, but then...

SCRATCH ALL THAT I SAW STUDIO GHIBLI SOMEWHERE IN THERE!
from what little i can glean, that dude seems to have been at least involved in Laputa, Mononoke, and i-can't-read-that-Fire-kanji. so... Ghibli's gonna animate an intro? maybe do cutscenes along the strata and at the ending too?

oh this is too much...
