Hey! @Tetsuo Shima I have two questions. I have a DOSbox cover collection (like 300 covers?) and I want to add as many DOS games as possible for my Wiiflow. Mortal Kombat for example. The first question is: What am I suppose to change in the config-file? I've heard that you are supposed to change the text at the bottom of the text, for example:

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup
@Echo off
mount -u c:
mount -u d:
mount c usb:/dosbox/games
c:
# like a bat file change these lines to match your game
cd pop
prince.exe

exit

and is it possible to add wiimote support quite easily?
Thank you! :)

To launch the game you have to change the part in bold with the correct folder and executable.
cd .... (game folder name)
xxxx.exe (name of the executable file that launches the game).
Unfortunately, this is only the first and easier part.
The hardest part will be to change many other settings to reach good performances.
There's no fixed recipe to do this, some settings don't give the same result for every game.
Tweaking games performances it's a time consuming process. In some cases, after dozen of hours I just gave up.
In my opinion it's useless to add tons of games if they are unplayable. Focus on one game at a time.
When choosing the games to do, consider this: Mouse driven games are unplayable with Dosbox Wii, and also don't waste time with games that require a fast 486 PC (roughly all games launched after 1996/'97).

I get it, I thought it was more simple that that so I guess that I'll stick with your collection then. It's still alot of fun childhood games in it. I just wish Mortal Kombat and Earthworm Jim was included. Anyways, for trying to get Mortal Kombat a try, is it that simple by just changing the last part in this config-file that are included in the rom that I just downloaded? It looks different at the bottom tho.

This config file may be good for a PC, but it wouldn't work on the Wii. Too many things to change, I suggest you rename the game folder 'Mortal Kombat 1' to 'MK1', so that it's less than 8 characters and there are no spaces.
Here, use this conf file to use as a base:
# This is the configuration file for DOSBox 0.74. (Please use the latest version of DOSBox)
# Lines starting with a # are comment lines and are ignored by DOSBox.
# They are used to (briefly) document the effect of each option.

[sdl]
# fullscreen: Start dosbox directly in fullscreen. (Press ALT-Enter to go back)
# fulldouble: Use double buffering in fullscreen. It can reduce screen flickering, but it can also result in a slow DOSBox.
# fullresolution: What resolution to use for fullscreen: original or fixed size (e.g. 1024x768).
# Using your monitor's native resolution with aspect=true might give the best results.
# If you end up with small window on a large screen, try an output different from surface.
# windowresolution: Scale the window to this size IF the output device supports hardware scaling.
# (output=surface does not!)
# output: What video system to use for output.
# Possible values: surface, overlay.
# autolock: Mouse will automatically lock, if you click on the screen. (Press CTRL-F10 to unlock)
# sensitivity: Mouse sensitivity.
# waitonerror: Wait before closing the console if dosbox has an error.
# priority: Priority levels for dosbox. Second entry behind the comma is for when dosbox is not focused/minimized.
# pause is only valid for the second entry.
# Possible values: lowest, lower, normal, higher, highest, pause.
# mapperfile: File used to load/save the key/event mappings from. Resetmapper only works with the defaul value.
# usescancodes: Avoid usage of symkeys, might not work on all operating systems.

fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=original
windowresolution=original
output=overlay
autolock=false
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=highest,normal
mapperfile=MK1.map
usescancodes=true

[dosbox]
# language: Select another language file.
# machine: The type of machine DOSBox tries to emulate.
# Possible values: hercules, cga, tandy, pcjr, ega, vgaonly, svga_s3, svga_et3000, svga_et4000, svga_paradise, vesa_nolfb, vesa_oldvbe.
# captures: Directory where things like wave, midi, screenshot get captured.
# memsize: Amount of memory DOSBox has in megabytes.
# This value is best left at its default to avoid problems with some games,
# though few games might require a higher value.
# There is generally no speed advantage when raising this value.

language=
machine=svga_s3
captures=capture
memsize=16

[render]
# frameskip: How many frames DOSBox skips before drawing one.
# aspect: Do aspect correction, if your output method doesn't support scaling this can slow things down!.
# scaler: Scaler used to enlarge/enhance low resolution modes. If 'forced' is appended,
# then the scaler will be used even if the result might not be desired.
# Possible values: none, normal2x, normal3x, tv2x, tv3x, rgb2x, rgb3x, scan2x, scan3x.

frameskip=0
aspect=false
scaler=none

[cpu]
# core: CPU Core used in emulation. auto will switch to dynamic if available and
# appropriate.
# Possible values: auto, normal, simple.
# cputype: CPU Type used in emulation. auto is the fastest choice.
# Possible values: auto, 386, 386_slow, 486_slow, pentium_slow, 386_prefetch.
# cycles: Amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond.
# Setting this value too high results in sound dropouts and lags.
# Cycles can be set in 3 ways:
# 'auto' tries to guess what a game needs.
# It usually works, but can fail for certain games.
# 'fixed #number' will set a fixed amount of cycles. This is what you usually
# need if 'auto' fails (Example: fixed 4000).
# 'max' will allocate as much cycles as your computer is able to
# handle.
# Possible values: auto, fixed, max.
# cycleup: Amount of cycles to decrease/increase with keycombos.(CTRL-F11/CTRL-F12)
# cycledown: Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.

[mixer]
# nosound: Enable silent mode, sound is still emulated though.
# rate: Mixer sample rate, setting any device's rate higher than this will probably lower their sound quality.
# Possible values: 22050, 44100, 48000, 32000, 16000, 11025, 8000, 49716.
# blocksize: Mixer block size, larger blocks might help sound stuttering but sound will also be more lagged.
# Possible values: 2048, 4096, 8192, 1024, 512, 256.
# prebuffer: How many milliseconds of data to keep on top of the blocksize.

# midiconfig: Special configuration options for the device driver. This is usually the id of the device you want to use.
# or in the case of coreaudio, you can specify a soundfont here.
# When using a Roland MT-32 rev. 0 as midi output device, some games may require a delay in order to prevent 'buffer overflow' issues.

This config file comes from Alien Rampage, one of the most intensive games in my collection performance-wise.
Mortal Kombat required a fast 486 to run fullspeed, so there are chances it won't be smooth enough.
If that's the case you can try to increase/decrease the cpu cycles by a small amount (let's say +/-50 cyles on every try)
I've already changed the bottom part to launch MK1, and to create its own mapper file (MK1.map)

I actually mange it to start up. First I got DSI error, but when resetting the Wii, it loads up with no issues. :) Just that there are no sound or no control support (not even with the virtual keyboard) should the .map be created by itself?

You have to launch the installation program first. Generally it's called setup.exe, or install.exe.
You can create a second config file with setup.exe instead of MK1.exe. Launch the setup with Wiiflow.
Then chose Soundblaster 16 for the audio and keyboard for the controls.
I don't have the game so I'm guessing.
In Dosbox Wii press Home and go to the mapper program.
Map all the required keys to your Classic Controller (wiimote won't have enough buttons to play MK1).
After that you can delete the setup config file

Great! Now I'm getting the hang of how it works. Sound works perfectly, a bit laggy gameplay but still works fine. Trying to map the joystick now. That's the difficult part. Good I found the manual for the DOS game to make it more easy. Is there any way to reset the mapping in DOS menu at all tho? I tried some mappings but ended up weird.
Thanks alot for your help!

Just delete the MK1.map file in your dosbox folder. A blank one will be re created,
However, even if Mortal Combat supports Joysticks, it's easier to configure it for keyboards controls and map the keyboard keys to your Wii controller.

Will try that, will aswell try to change the cpu cycles for less lag as you mentioned. So as MK works now, can I use the same config-file for Earthworm Jim by just changing the last settings as you did with MK?

Hm, I'm having trouble to get Heroes of Might and Magic to load. I have the GOG version of the game and it seems to work, just that I need to change something in here:

@Echo off
mount -u c:
mount -u d:
mount c usb:/dosbox/games/HoMM

C:
cd HoMM
HEROES.EXE
exit

Do you have any clues?

Not sure, but some games need to mount the CD iso image to work (unless you use a No-CD crack)
So you can mount the game folder to C: and the game ISO to D:

Try with something like this:
@Echo off
mount -u c:
mount -u d:
mount c usb:/dosbox/games/HoMM
imgmount d usb:/dosbox/games/HoMM/homm1.gog -t iso -fs iso

C:
HEROES.EXE
exit

Amazing, works like a charm! Been trying to figure how to get this running for days.. same with Earthworm Jim, I'm just getting black screen. Glad I asked for this one tho :)so all games that req CD's should looklike that? How would non-GOG games that req CD looklike if I may ask?

@Tetsuo Shima regarding Windows 3.11, Wiiflow seems having issues by loading it properly. When everything is installed and running it with Wiiflow, I'm getting tons of errors like cannot open .GRP files. (Games, etc) There is something I need to type in the config file for wiiflow to open it properly or? Setup are like this:

@Echo off
mount -u c:
mount -u d:
mount c usb:/dosbox/games/WINDOWS
c:
# like a bat file change these lines to match your game
cd WINDOWS
WIN.COM
exit

Okay...I've got quite a few plugins from the pack in the OP working with games I loved that I even couldn't remember I loved:

Prince of persia (okay, and also prince of persia 2 which is...not as good), lemmings, lemmings 2, jazzjackrabbit (though I might check into that app if that has better performance) and the first two eye of the beholder's. Oh, and probably stunts as well, though I've got to recheck that one (stunts didn't originally came with stunt_k.exe, which overrides the antipiracy protection...IIRC it's an official .exe, though).
Wolfenstein's a bit of a weird one...is it possible the "open" key isn't bound to anything on the wiimote? I'm literally stuck in the first room. :P

Anyway...my question is on eye of the beholder 3. The conf file points to a "start.bat" file in the game folder, but my version might be different (it's from gog.com). It doesn't have a start.bat file, but can be started in windows through an included dosbox part that refers to its own conf file. More specifically:

Code:
"E:\Games\Eye of the Beholder III\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe" -conf "..\dosbox_eob3.conf" -conf "..\dosbox_eob3_single.conf" -noconsole -c "exit"

The thing is...that's obviously meant to get it running on windows (which it does). But assuming the start.bat isn't part of another version (I don't want to ask for copyrighted stuff here)...what does it contain exactly? :unsure:

Stunts already includes the full game, which is freeware.
Wolf3D needs to be played with the Classic controller
wolf3d.png
You can install my banner set to have this in place of the snapshot in Wiiflow, as a controls reference.
There's also a Wolf3d sourceport, but it misses the run key, so I prefer Dosbox
Jazz Jack Rabbit: the source port is good but I also prefer to play it with Dosbox
EoB3: the version I had has a start.bat which is like this:
Code:
@echo off
eob3fix
aesop eye start
I suppose eob3fix is some kind of crack.
One final warning about mouse driven games in dosbox Wii (like lemmings): mouse behaviour is horrible, so they're almost unplayable. It often stucks on the screen, or hit an invisible wall.

I've had some fun creating a few dosbox plugins that I was missing:

* Commander Keen 1, 2 and 3. Not as good as 4->6, but ey...it's a simple conversion
(note: I'd create one for Keen dreams as well, but it seems like that one's not abanbonware yet :unsure: ).

* Duke Nukem 1 and 2. Absolutely not as good as 3D, but still...it's more Duke Nukem. :P
(note: to get into DN1, you'll need to use the virtual keyboard first to pick the episode (just point to 1, 2 or 3), and on the main menu point it to the option you want (S to start a game) ).

* One Must Fall 2097. A fighting game before street fighter 2 defined the genre, madewhen epic (megagames) still made good games. :P
It runs, but it's kind of flakey. On my PC (dosbox) it runs at an insane speed. On the wii, it runs in slow motion (even when turning everything to low). I don't think the plugin can help in that regard, but your mileage might vary.
EDIT: I've since updated this file. Please check post 246 of this thread if you want to play this great game.

The zip files contain just the .map and .conf file, an amateur boxcover and some indication on where to put the files. If you're a fan of oldschool games and have any of these lying around...just gimme a 'like' if this stuff suits your fancy. :)

@Tetsuo Shima : I accidentally read over your post last saturday. I've tried some more things on eye of the beholder 3, but so far no luck. The "aesop eye start" is also a part of the GoG .conf file. I've tracked down the crack, but I seriously doubt it's a DOS crack. Either way...I'll check some more. :)

If your having issues with mouse controlled games on dosboxwii i suggest you download a dos mouse driver. Something like this https://sourceforge.net/projects/cutemouse/ . In your conf file call the mouse driver .exe before calling the executable game file so that the driver installs to memory then the game runs. Should give some improvement with wiimote/mouse control. Aldo if you have a spare usb mouse just plug it into an empty port on the wii and away you go with real mouse controls.

@Echo off
mount -u c:
mount -u d:
mount c usb:/dosbox/games/WINDOWS
c:
# like a bat file change these lines to match your game
cd WINDOWS
WIN.COM
exit

Try calling Win.com after setting up paths and adding the /s switch after win.com:-

SET PATH=c:\;c:\windows;c:\windows\system
win.com /s

@Taleweaver Thanks for sharing your efforts! I had some requests previously about Duke 1-2 and Keen 1-2-3, but I've never found the time to do it. I agree with you that they're aging badly (I didn't even like them at their time, tbh) but I know that they are historically important.

One Must Fall 2097: I'm not familiar with it (only in name), but being a 1994 game and in 2D, chances are it can run pretty decently, if properly tweaked. At the moment I'm a little busy with other things (namely my theme and the plugins pack), but you're free to try. I can suggest you to start editing a .conf file of a demanding game (like Alien Rampage or X-Wing). Then adjust the cycles, 50 or 100 at a time. I may eventually give it a try.

@sion_zaphod Interesting, I will try with cutemouse. Unfortunately I can't plud a mouse, cause I have only one working USB port. The other one was busted years ago (too many plug'n plays I guess).
I've integrated XEGS and GX4000 in my theme and plugins. Still have to optimize them. Again thanks!
IIRC you said you did the XEGS cover set. I've assembled some good source material for the Amstrad GX4000..
I'd also like to make blank_covers for them (see Covers Collections - part 2). Do you happen to have a plain template of Atari XEGS cover?
