Bandai Namco Confirmed Developers of Metroid Prime 4

Prime 4.jpg

According to a recent update from Eurogamer, multiple sources have confirmed Namco Bandai as the developer of Metroid Prime 4[prebreak]1[/prebreak]; one of Nintendo's most anticipated release since its announcement at E3 last year.
Eurogamer said:
Internet rumours this week pegged Bandai Namco as being the mystery studio behind Metroid Prime 4 - something multiple sources have now confirmed to Eurogamer as being accurate.
Specifically, the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch exclusive is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, which we understand is lead studio on the game in collaboration with Nintendo.
It should be noted while Eurogamer's sources have not been named, the Lead Designer from Bandai Namco Singapore himself confirmed they are working on "an unannounced IP (First Person Shooter/Adventure Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch)".

So we all saw the reveal trailer for Metroid Prime 4 at Nintendo's E3 Direct last year, but apart from that 30 second teaser, nothing else is currently known about the title. We do know one thing, however, that Retro Studios, the developer of the previous Prime titles won't be working on Metroid Prime 4.

This morning a post went up on resetera that shows a Lead Designer from Bandai Namco Singpapore has been working on an unannounced IP (First Person Shooter/Adventure Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch):

Namco Bandai isn't particularly known for making first-person shooters, and what other first-person adventure games are you aware of other than Metroid Prime? It will be interesting to finally find out if they are the studio behind the hotly anticipated Metroid Prime 4.

From the same job listing there is also information that the next Ridge Racer is a Switch exclusive. No further details about that are currently known.

I wouldn't call this one over hyped since all we have seen so far is a trailer with a bigass "4" on the logo.
I'm making the assumption now that it's overhyped. People went bonkers over a logo, it's clear the Metroid series has been dormant long enough to allow huge expectations to fester, especially as old Metroid games become wrapped in nostalgia.

The original three Prime games looked fantastic for their systems, and played well on both GCN controllers and Wiimotes w/nunchuck. So it's not so much nostalgia as it is simply great games to live up to. Still, Bamco has all three of the previous Prime games to study and build on, as well as their own experience in level design from games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Should turn out pretty good as long as the FPS mechanics are solid.

I hope. Fingers crossed they maintain what made the Prime games good instead of following the rest of the FPS herd.

Sounds good to me, I like the games Namco makes, and they seem to care when it comes to working with Nintendo lately (such as Sm4sh and Pokken), so I'm all for it.

Namco was, is, and will be a great developer. Sure there might have had some mishaps, but most of their games are quality games.

I trust Namco, if they happen to be working on Metroid Prime 4.
If you want to break your virtual GBA SP because of this, suit yourself. But I don't think it is bad news at all.

The problem here is that Nintendo can decide to work themselves on their greatest IPs instead of investing their limited time to experiments and games that could easily be built by others instead.

Examples include Arms and Splatoon 2, which could very easily have been trusted to other companies as they are much more run of the mill. If Nintendo needs more developers to expand their studios, it is the best of times, they have lined their pockets with loads of cash from the Switch sales. Just keep the really important IPs internal for god's sake.

At the end of the day, BUY some good studios if you need to. They had Rare in the 90s.

What? Team Ninja developed Other M.

Also that's completely fine if you don't buy it, more power to you.

This reminds me of the same reactions people had when Metroid Prime was being developed by Retro Studios, who had absolutely no experience with Metroid before, just like Bandai Namco.

Kudos to you, though, for stating you'll hold judgement until you actually see something. You're a good step above many others who wouldn't even do that before discounting it.

you literally can do a really quick 2 second google search to find out that it wasnt Team Ninja's fault for how bad Other M was https://kotaku.com/5843159/blame-nintendo-for-metroid-other-ms-sucky-story All team ninja did was program the game to however Sakamoto wanted the game to be (Sakamoto was the co-creator of the original metroid/director of super metroid btw)

I have high hopes for this. Nintendo is not going to let some 3rd party dev screw this up.

I just hope the fan base is able to keep their hype in check as I don't think it will be as good as the first 3.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
