Naturally it will be a bump in the road. We won't have support for games that use 7.x encryption keys when the first one is released, but somebody will come up with a solution after some months. This is always the case with hacks/exploits. Developer releases initial product, hacks/exploits are released for said product, developer updates product to try protect against emergent hacks/exploits, new or updated hacks/exploits are found which work on the updated product.
There's no way to know as of yet whether this will require entirely different hardware from Gateway or its clones, but likely the solution will be software-based, as that's the only way to maintain popularity with consumers like us. It's just a matter of who comes up with that software solution.
Gateway has done chip decapping on the 3DS, so if they are able to read boot sequences and how/where the 7.x encryption keys are being generated, that will make finding a solution far easier.
