In May 2024 we saw DOOM ported to Persona 5 Royal's retro console. Nintendo confirmed a Switch successor. Microsoft underwent further layoffs, including studios like Tango Gameworks. Asus unveiled the ROG Ally X with improved battery life and repair-friendly design. Anbernic introduced the RG35XXSP, a GBA SP-inspired retro handheld. Tools like N64Recomp released which aim to modernize N64 games. RetroArch arrived on the Apple App Store. Ubisoft announces 'Assassin's Creed Shadows' set in late Sengoku-era Japan. Kingdom Hearts games head to Steam after Epic Games Store exclusivity. And finally Majora's Mask PC port, 2Ship2Harkinian, releases after extensive development.

May 2024 news roundup



DOOM is well-known for being ported to basically every device with some kind of input, and that list now includes the old retro game console in Persona 5 Royal. Modders KingJackSkellington and Xan1242 released the DOOMsona mod today, that lets you buy the shareware version of the original DOOM at the second-hand store in Yongen-Jaya.



President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025).



The number of layoffs and cuts in the videogame industry sadly continue to grow, with the latest huge layoffs coming from Microsoft, due to what MIcrosoft calls a "reprioritization of titles and resources" from a variety of companies and studios under their helm.

After rumour got out about an upcoming NES Edition release for the famed Nintendo World Championships, Nintendo has officially unveiled the new game, titled "Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition".



Titled the ROG Ally X, it'll be a refresh to the original model, sporting improvement in various ways, such as better battery life, a new black color scheme, being more "repair friendly", swappable analog sticks, and support for larger M.2 drives.



Retro handheld manufacturer Anbernic has revealed its first clamshell device: the Anbernic RG35XXSP. As the suffix indicates, this handheld's design is inspired by the GBA SP.



N64 Recomp is a static recompiler for Nintendo 64 games that can turn N64 binaries into C code, and then be compiled into a platform of your choosing.



With Apple opening its store up to videogame emulators earlier this year, emulators didn't take long to start appearing into the official store, The latest frontend for emulators to appear in it is none other than the famous RetroArch.



Ubisoft has today officially revealed the next installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise: Assassin's Creed Shadows. This entry is set in late Sengoku-era Japan and follows the story of two protagonists.



Mario Builder 64 is a fully-featured Super Mario 64 level creator with everything you could want to build and share your very own Super Mario 64 stages.



After a little more than three years of exclusivity with the Epic Games Store, Square Enix has decided to bring their beloved Kingdom Hearts franchise to Steam.



After several months of work, the Harbour Masters 64 team have released their first public build of 2Ship2Harkinian, a feature-rich Majora's Mask PC port.
