  • I have arrived home after about 7 months. Trying to come up with which EEPROM programmer to get to fix my old computer's BIO. I'm all new to that stuff. Thankfully I got around 3ish weeks of leave now to come up with that. Also that's 3 weeks to deal with the massive influx of fumos in my room. They have taken over.
I've fallen off the earth for a bit, but I'll just pop in to say Happy New Years to everyone. Not really exciting yet, but I hope when I get home in a few months I can finally do something interesting again. I've saved away quite a bit of money, and I intend to build a computer with gaming and emulation in mind. I can't wait to start working on that, as I haven't had any hands-on with computer parts for a while.
I just beat The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, 100% for the first time. I love the game but dang, the achievement to open every chest and check it a second time was brutal. At least I can say I did it.
Here's the vast majority of my collection of fumos. It's always hard to have a collection of things in my line of work, so two of these pictures are from my room back home and the other is a dorm room. To say the least I'm gonna run out of space for these when I get home lol

Things haven't been going the best out here. On the bright side I'll have loads of packages to see when I get home in 5ish months.

I've ordered about, 10 Touhou FumoFumo plushies, and some other miscellaneous knicknacks. Got some figures, and when I'm on my way out of this place I'm gonna have some computer components shipped out so I can do that on my two weeks of free leave.

Oh nice. Fumos are cute. If you've got a photo of them, do post them here. :)

They're 8000 miles away :( Like I said, I won't see them for 5ish months. Might be closer to 4.5 but they won't tell me how much time I've got here. That being said, I do have a picture of my collection back home.
Life is busy out here, but I've been playing a LOT of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I think I've spent more time actually playing games than sleeping then I have in a while. Work here is hard, but at least I know I get to go home eventually. I'm thinking of getting a ROG Ally when I get back. A coworker in the center I work at won't stop raving about it vs the Deck.
Gosh internet is damn expensive out here where I am. 199$ a month for a TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY MEGABIT download speed. I miss being able to download things at a decent speed for a good price.

That's awful, where do you live like rural Arkansas?

I'm not in the US at the moment, and my location is sadly classified. Back home the internet was getting about 500mbps on my lousy plan for internet through T-Mobile that was like, 50 bucks a month or something. I miss convenience. At least we got Pizza Hut here.

Forgot to mention that the saleswoman hyped up this plan as the "best plan around". yeahhhhhhhh. How is it that a 99$ plan has a 300GB data cap, and is capped at like 50mbps? Sheds light on why I'm wasting 200 a month now when you see there's no data cap.
Well the jetlag is killing me here. But hey, my Analogue Pocket is getting me through these 8 hour shifts. Also been replaying Crash Bandicoot on my Steam Deck as I never beat it on Steam. Internet where I am is awful though.

    Which Crash? The original?
What are you playing on the Pocket?
    KanaKonpaku
    KanaKonpaku
The original Crash Bandicoot through the NSane Trilogy. I'm trying to 100% it like I did on Switch since I'm slowly moving away from that console for anything by first party games. I've been playing Pokemon Emerald++ and Chrono Trigger+ on the Pocket. Good times.

Well, so far all the tech I've loaded up for my trip has been working. I unfortunately missed the update for my EZFlash Omega DE until today, as that is a VERY convenient firmware update for it since I'm using my Analogue Pocket for GBA games. I had someone amazed at how setup my 3DS was though, haha.
Almost got everything setup. Just configuring emulators on my laptop, and trying to figure out how on earth people actual get a stable 30FPS in Palworld on Steam Deck. On a sidenote, I just learned RPCS3 allows compiling all PPU modules before playing a game. Such a time saver!
I've had a fun time getting all of my devices setup within the deadline I have to get things done. I'm gonna be away from my home for a few months, and I'm trying to load up on media in case the Internet is bad where I'm going. Got my 3DS, Gameboy/Pocket, and tablet setup. Have to finish work on my laptop and Steam Deck.

Yeah I considered this at one point and shot it down. I'm very good at hardware modding things, but I'm always worried to flash a bios with something that isn't official. Hopefully at some point they announce a successor to the deck with a slightly better screen.

Especially if you don't know on what you're doing in regards to flashing the BIOS with a new one, there are many risks, even if it's a beta BIOS for example. If something goes wrong, then it's basically a $400 paperweight.

Yeah no, I watched a computer brick itself WITH official non-beta bios once. It used one of those newer GUI flashers that Dell and other companies use. It had a BSoD DURING the BIOS update. Thankfully the computer a brick before it did that so the person I was going it for wasn't too mad about it.

She's an OC character of the artist Iroha Matsurika, named Mutsuki, though I just call her Kana as it's how I portray myself on the internet lol. I usually update my pfp when new art of her comes out. It's hard to find any amount of lore for the characters of Iroha, but all the characters in their art are so cute ^_^ Here's their Pixiv.

I just got my New 3DS XL fully setup. I ripped all my carts onto it, made multiple homescreens with unique themes (split by game franchise) using 3DSBank, put all my DS games in using nds-bootstrap, and synced my save files with my cartridges. It also has two IPS screens as I got a Japanese model with them when my first 3DS XL started to die.

Well, I've almost got my devices setup for my trip. I love how things always feel like I'm working till the last minute before I leave for things. Been making sure my Steam Deck is ready, getting any Steam games I need on my laptop to last me for a few months, and getting all my movies onto my laptop. Thankfully I've got about a week to kick back and relax.

Well good news is I got the Steam Deck fixed, no clue what was up with it. Gparted from a Ubuntu live USB stick didn't find anything wrong with the partitions on the SSD, and it still wouldn't boot after running fsck. Right when I was about to give up, it just randomly started booting properly. I wonder if it was the SD card?

Glad it's working now. Perhaps it might be a corrupted card or something to do with the SSD.

What's odd is that it refused to boot without the SD card, wouldn't boot the first two times with the SD card, but then did and now it boots without it. Maybe a job was stuck that was pending on the SD card.
Another fun day. My Steam Deck has decided to stop booting for some reason despite turning off properly last time. I'm currently getting a recovery image loaded. Why does this stuff always happen when I'm bottle necked for time? Same thing happened with the computer I bricked last year.

Had an interesting day. I found my old Amiga A500 floating around and have been trying to see if I can get it working. The main bottleneck is, I don't have a workbench floppy for it. I got the PC from my grandfather (the thing is much too old for me to have ever touched it) and he did a bad job of keeping the together and in good shape.

Alright last update on this for the night. It definitely seems possible to recover this thing, my current issue is that I bricked this thing over a year ago. I'm 99% sure I wasn't stupid enough to overwrite the floppy with the bios backup file on it, but I currently can't find it. It's likely it's either with the computer, or in the shop I store it in. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

I have yet to find the floppy. There is a chance I actually ran the BIOS flasher from within the hard drive and I just loaded the hard drive from a DOS boot floppy. Either way I'm glad there's some hope to get this back, even if it might be months before I can get the time to try to revive this PC. I think I found the BIOS online at some point anyways.

Best to work on the thing that you're finishing before moving onto the computer that you was going to fix.
I've been having a somewhat fun day. Been trying to convert all my DVDs and Blurays over to MKV so I can watch them while I'm bored on an international flight. Since encoding them takes so much time I've been running three computers at once. My room is sooooo warm right now from all this. Can't wait to be done and see the finished result though.

DVDs aren't that big, you can just copy the mpeg2 TS/PS files and play them in VLC or whatever, no need to transcode.
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
High quality DVDs can reach almost 4GB per hour (rarely, dropping unneeded audio streams helps). Converting them to h.264 can shrink them to a third without loosing too much.
BDs are beyond good and evil with their high bitrate.
If there is too much noise in the picture (visible grain for BDs) recoding takes very long and may result in disappointingly large files.
    KleinesSinchen
    KleinesSinchen
Then there is playing around with filters… for de-blocking, de-noise → Meh.

I've transcoded my complete DVD/BD collection years ago, trying out settings for each movie to set it to the best in minutest details, but frankly I wouldn't go through the trouble anymore: Huge HDDs are somewhat affordable. MakeMKV → Done.
Funny enough, while cleaning out a few drawers I found my old DS Lite. The thing still has my old DS R4 in it, but it seems the SD card is corrupt so it won't load.

So, it can't/isn't a microSD input device?
  • Veho @ Veho:
You would need to hack the Dreamcast to run games from the memory card instead of trying to read the disk drive.
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Don't know if it's that hard dreamcast had no write protection and it's basically a ps1
  • Veho @ Veho:
I guess you could make a bootloader that would just run off a CD and tell the console to read and run a game off of the memory card?
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
They could potentially get GDEMU (GD-ROM Emulator) to read from vmu like how ps1 has mx4iso
  • Veho @ Veho:
Thing is, the Dreamcast was so easy to pirate I don't think anyone bothered to hack it.
