Naturally it will be a bump in the road. We won't have support for games that use 7.x encryption keys when the first one is released, but somebody will come up with a solution after some months. This is always the case with hacks/exploits. Developer releases initial product, hacks/exploits are released for said product, developer updates product to try protect against emergent hacks/exploits, new or updated hacks/exploits are found which work on the updated product.

There's no way to know as of yet whether this will require entirely different hardware from Gateway or its clones, but likely the solution will be software-based, as that's the only way to maintain popularity with consumers like us. It's just a matter of who comes up with that software solution.

Gateway has done chip decapping on the 3DS, so if they are able to read boot sequences and how/where the 7.x encryption keys are being generated, that will make finding a solution far easier.

Yeah, I guess they might find it "soon". :P

It's still by no means an easy task overall, but they have the head start. Can't complain too much about time required given that they spawned the 3DS scene when it didn't exist prior, and if they were to solve the 7.x encryption issue, they'd be the sole reason why the 3DS scene gets to continue rather than dying not long after it began.

if Nintendo at least released a way to put all our legit game cards on SD other than eshop it would be so much better than running away from your dog with an exposed broken bone like this.

Everything takes time, whos to say they dont just find a way to add and to set NCCH flag[3] to 0

LOL, and you are sure this removes already applied encryption? Wow, magic!

And because of the power saves thing:
They most likely just generated a xorpad using a ram dumping setup.

That'd just make piracy much easier.
I seriously doubt people that use gateway, use it for legit purpouses, unlike the previous generation of flashcarts, the current one has no benefits aside from enabling piracy.

Yeah people share their eShop games with each other all the time because they're just put on the SD card unencrypted and everything.

If you could put a card game on the SD you could just put it on there, then lend the card to a friend. Bam, piracy.

There's region free so you don't have to get 2x 3DS (even 3, cause some games are already not coming to EU).
Which is honestly fucking stupid no matter how you look at it.

Sure, region free is a valid complaint and I hate it just as much as the next guy, however the only genuine region free patch is the one that was released by a temper a while back (around the same time as all the bricking occured).

The point I was referring to anyway, was about people saying that carrying games on the sd would be better. I always carry around over 20 cartridges with me in the cases that nintendo offered a while ago:

I have two of those cases and they're the same size as a normal case so it doesn't take much space in a jacket pocket or in a bag.

not quite as handy as having all the games stored inside the card slot :P

also eshop isnt exactly a valid solution the prices are stupid, games you can get for £10 are still £40 on eshop for some reason :rofl2: heck of a price to pay for convenience if you times that by say even 10, you would be over charged by £300, and not even be able to resell them if you ever want too

anyways each to their own, lets leave it at that

Nothing would prevent you from copying the same game to more SD cards, using different 3DSes.

There could be a bool in the save file that only allows copying once. In addition to that, the games could use a "Backup manager" where you can delete the old dumps if you have the cartridge in the slot and allow it to be copied again.
Something similar exists for DVDs.
