Ship of Harkinian (Ocarina of Time) Wii U Port




This is a port of Ship of Harkinian to the Wii U. Ship of Harkinian is a PC port of Ocarina of Time allowing you to enjoy the game with modern controls, widescreen, high-resolution, and other great features!

Quick Start

  • Requires a supported copy of the game (See supported games below).
The instructions below haven't been updated in a while. Join the official Discord for updated builds and support.

Releases:

  1. Download the Khan Charlie 6.1.2 .zip from here or the #downloads channel on the official Discord.
  2. Download the PC OTRGui version from here.
  3. Use OTRGui to create an oot.otr archive file. If you already have a oot.otr file for the latest PC version, you can use that as well.
  4. Copy the oot.otr file to the wiiu/apps/soh/ folder on your SD Card.

Nightly Builds:

The nightly builds come with up-to-date features, but are experimental. Use at your own risk.
  1. Download the latest soh-wiiu and soh-windows artifact.
  2. Use OTRGui from the soh-windows.zip to create an oot.otr archive file. If you already have a oot.otr file for the latest PC nightly version, you can use that as well.
  3. Copy the oot.otr file and the contents of the soh-wiiu.zip to the wiiu/apps/soh/ folder on your SD Card.

creating the oot.otr with OTRGui has a "error" line in red in the logs. and github readme says it takes 5min, not 11 seconds.
I didn't try the generated oot.otr file, I just assumed it failed to generate it due to the warning and errors in the logs, but the GUI says "done" and the generated oot.otr is 28.5MB. I guess I'll try it and see.

Ah that error line is expected. The generated OTR will still work fine.

I'd like to know that too, I'm guessing this may be implemented in a future release. Also I just checked the github page and it seems that the supported games are now the PAL versions instead of NTSC, will the game run slower?

It looks like it does run slower with the PAL rom, unless the newest version of the program breaks the shipofharkinian.ini file, as I remember setting the text speed to the fastest and now it appears to be slower than before, or maybe I just perceive it that way and it's the same as always, it's been a while since I last tried it.
I read somewhere that even though it's PAL it's still modded to run at the same 60hz as NTSC. And I can't notice a difference in the framerates, so I think that's probably all in your mind.

I can't get the dev menu to open when pressing minus after updating to the v4, anything I'm missing or has it been disabled perhaps in that one?

Yeah, they don't work unless both are updated in my previous experience! I'll try again shortly as i don't think think i tried tapping the screen after mashing all the buttons lol!

Edit....
Tapping the screen all over even with minus held doesn't work either. Weird thing is all my prev enabled mods are still active.

I’m still on the very first Wii U release, I couldn’t get the updated version to run for some reason and joining the discord server didn’t help out as the mods were... not very helpful there tbh, so it’s scavenger hunt for me as I went back to the oldest release, I still don’t understand what I did wrong though, updating the rpx file should still work, no?

You'll need to regenerate your OTR file with the latest OTRGui PC version.

Either by using the touch screen on the gamepad or the following controller navigation:

Press Y to select options in the top bar.

Edit: It's X, X and Y are swapped on that image

Yeah, I’m afraid idk how to do that, may laptop can’t even run the application is too old, and as expected I get a black screen, I know it’s not the rpx file but my setup, it’s back to the oldest version for me, thanks anyway, I’m honestly not the biggest Zelda fan but I was interested to check Ocarina of Time since a lot of people praised it, guess I can always just play the 3DS version.

It would be strange that it run slower, oot file should only contain the resources (texture, audio, maps, etc.) and the program is the one running on the computer and responsible for the frame rate.
I didn't play harkinian yet, I'll try both normal and MQ soon.

Edit:

I tried to convert the ROM to oot.otr with OTRGUI.exe from nightly 4.0.0 2022-10-01
It failed :(


at launch, it tests my Shaders, and there are some missing, so I suppose that's why it can't complete it.
The Sha1 of the original non MQ debug ROM to use matches the one in the readme.
I didn't try with the gamecube iso.

The readme says it should take 5min, mine takes 11sec.
My created oot.otr is of different size and sha1 each time I build it.

I get some

OTRGui just gives an error a the end, but it's normal.
I didn't try the file thinking it failed, because it took 11seconds to generate the oot.otr file instead of mentionned "5 minutes" on github.
But it works. The oot.otr is having a different file size every time I generate it... but it works.
yeah, you get same error when you generate the otr in linux. ;)

Is the switch port dev on GBAtemp too ? or only discord ?

I didn't try the WiiU port, but maybe it has the same "issue" I noticed and would like to make some suggestion to improve it. Maybe you could share with other devs ?
Tested with 4.0.0 nightly from yesterday (2022 10 01), with Master quest assets.
I made a twitch vod in case someone want to check the issues, but it's a long video (and I speak french at the beginning).


I know most report should go to github, not here, but maybe the first issue is something you can work on if it's console port related ?


1) My first concern is about the controller setup menu.
When I edit the controllers using the controller (not touchscreen), I press A to enter in edit mode "press a key..."
but it often set that button to A ! because there is no timer between pressing A to enter the edit mode, and checking which button the player is pressing to assign the new one.
I suggest to check and wait for a button release first. press A to edit.... wait for "release A" event, then wait for user input.

2) My second one is about the inverted Y axis.
I thought 4.0.0 added an option to invert axis but I didn't find it. Maybe it's the Switch version which doesn't have that option yet ?

I edited the C to be on buttons instead of right stick, and use the right stick for camera control.
horizontal is fine with my preference, but vertical axis is not. I'd like to look UP when I press UP.
Even when remapping the vertical direction in reverse in the controller settings, it still not inverting the axis in the game.
I guess the axis invert option should/would also affect the internal view (pressing C-UP) ? maybe even the shield direction when protecting and moving the left stick up/down ?

3) A and B are switched by default on switch
but it's already reported here https://github.com/HarbourMasters/Shipwright/issues/1462

In fact, I still changed the default buttons to have B (n64) on B (switch) and A (n64) on Y (switch)/ X (Xbox).
I feel more natural to attack with Y button.
in the end, it's all about the user's preference.

It was just a little confused on first launch, when the game says A and you actually need to press B. when you want to save and press the wrong button, etc.


Then, I noticed in the controller setup, there are a lot of different "controller presets", but they are all identical. maybe the presets could be different by default (at least 2 or 3), so the user can pick one of them without having to remap manually ?

I moved the on-screen icons of A, B and C to finally match my controller layout, and it became SOOOO much easier !!
I changed them this way :
N64 -> switch
A - Y (sword)
B - B (action)
free camera - right stick
c up - R3 (fairy/internal view)
c left - x
c right - A
c down - R (that one is counter intuitive, I placed the visual on the far right).
it's still not the best, and not using the free camera is probably a better solution to keep the C on the right stick.
Or an even better solution is to use a N64 controller.

with the new on-screen layout matching
controller button position it looks like this :

I might change the layout again for the s-tick order, and which one to set on R.



4) Enhanced menu.
Maybe it's only on switch too ?
When in the enhance menu, we can choose vanilla, vanilla+, and enhanced.
And just below, there are some sub-menus about graphics, etc.
On switch, there are no sub-menu opening when clicking on them, but it properly set the options when choosing "Apply" : I climb faster, etc.
I just don't have access to the options myself to enable/disable them individually, I have to choose one of the three presets.

5) Item tracker
That is a nice feature, and it has a lot of option to merge or separate in different windows, it's great !

The only concern I have is that unobtained items are hard to differentiate from obtained ones.
Maybe they should be grey'd out, instead of colored, or a slider option to let the player set them even darker/paler or Alpha/transparency or colored/grey'd.
There is an alpha option for the background, but not the unobtained items.



6) not really an issue.
Switch is running in 20FPS, but I didn't have any problem, feeling or visual issue. it runs smoothly and fast enough.
I tried changing presets (battery saving to full power) but it didn't change anything graphically or the frame rate. I'm unsure what it's used for. Or maybe it requires a reset, I didn't try.

To change the camera controls (inverted x/y axis), go to enhancements->controls->customize game controls. You get the option to invert the camera there.

What I can't find is the option to change the camera sensitivity, I swear the option used to exist but I can't find it 😅 I can only find the one for Gyro sensitivity.
