Logitech's new cloud handheld gaming device releases next month, will retail for $350

A recent leak saw the existence of Logitech's new gaming handheld spoiled before the company could officially announce it, but nearly a month later, Logitech is ready to officially unveil the G Cloud Handheld gaming device. Retailing for $349.99, the Android-based handheld goes all-in on game streaming: it supports GeForce Now, Xbox xCloud streaming, and Valve's Steam Link. Since it runs Android, it can also play mobile games, though Logitech is mostly refraining from that aspect in its marketing. This handheld exists as part of a collaboration with Tencent, who assisted in creating the Android UI for the system.

The Logitech G Cloud Handheld sports a 1080p IPS touchscreen, with a Snapdragon 720G inside, alongside 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 64GB of storage. Despite the claims of portable game streaming, the device lacks SIM support, so you'll need to rely on only Wi-Fi to stream. Beyond that, the handheld has a 12-hour battery life, a gyroscope, and haptics.

Logitech's device will be out on October 17th, and will retail for $349.99--the same price as a Nintendo Switch OLED. If you pre-order the system, you'll get a discount, putting it at $299.99.

who in their right mind would buy this thing when they can get a Steamdeck for not even $100 more? Who is the target audience they had in mind? Who greenlighted this? So many questions.
$50 more actually, the ol Garbage Cloud is discounted up until launch. Their attempt at making the price look 'good' in comparison to the Steam Deck.

From another perspective: why not advertise android? I know it's not exactly hot in gaming circles, but i had quite a good time on dead cells on my gdp xd+ (though admitted:it's better on Steam deck). I really would prefer it over attempting to stream something.
Then again: it's dead on arrival vs either steam deck or the switch.

12h battery life sounds great. A real slap in the face for Nintendo (NSW has a 2h battery life).
lol you do realize this doesnt run the games right? jsut streaming them, its easier to have a bigger batery life when you arent running the games...

At first I thought this was a good point. Then I realised it implies that most people are smart...

I'm just hoping these aren't sold where I work, last thing I want to deal with is someone complaining that a thing which is not a Steam Deck isn't a Steam Deck.......

and Christmas is around the corner....

Or some scalper bulk buying these and then returning them after Xmas (which means we may be stuck with them for several years).

Before anyone complains, I once had someone buy a Quest 2 thinking it would work on the PS4 as PSVR (I only found out their intent after purchase) and we do get scalpers who bulk buy and return stuff.

But why? I don't se a point in this when I have PC and mobile phones that can play cloud games just fine.
I guess it's for all those people that have great WIFI but no PC.. and only want to game at home on a portable device that isn't a phone since no SIM.. and don't want to have a good experience because they prefer crappy streaming services (it only has 64GB storage and a SD720G so local play isn't a great option either).

Reminds me of one of my fav "anti cloud gaming" quotes I read some time ago

The unstable people who voted for the cloud version of Kingdom Hearts
should NEVER be allowed to touch any other game than Monopoly, but only if played with an always losing Satan.

Cloud gaming is just further prove to me that really.. everything is going downhill.
First streaming devaluated music, then movies n tvshows.

And now. The last one: Games.

Have fun being put into queues...

So sick of it

Yeah it is really going downhill but hey looking on the bright side there are tons of retro games to dive back into if you don't mind second hand markets! Better get into it early before the prices sky rockets!:rofl2:

You know at $99 - $149 this thing could have found a niche for itself as an emulation handheld with cloud gaming support. Even at $199 it may have had a chance. But holy crap is $350 an insane price. That's the price of a Switch OLED and the base Switch and Lite are $50 - $150 cheaper than that. The Steam Deck which is a full portable gaming PC is only $50 more for the base model (and it can also do cloud gaming in addition to local). WHO IS THIS MADE FOR? Seriously, even a Retroid Pocket 3 will emulate everything up to PSP/Dreamcast just fine for $120! The RP3 also runs Android so it can run all these cloud gaming apps too! I truly don't understand who would actually buy this thing.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
