Nintendo Switch Online to launch in the second half of September

upload_2018-8-10_14-35-15.png

With the launch of Nintendo's first premium online service impending, it has today been confirmed it will be launching in the second half of September, adding a little more information to their previous prediction of just the month itself. The service will give users access to online play, a selection of online-enabled NES games, and a much anticipated online save data backup feature.

Will you be buying a Nintendo Switch Online subscription when the service launches? Are you hoping Nintendo will add something more to sweeten the deal? Let us know your thoughts.

I'm going to have to subscribe solely for Splatoon 2. I was never really into online gaming or FPS, but that game hooked me. I have Mario Tennis as well, but haven't played online much yet. Been holding out on a price drop or sale to double dip on Mario Kart 8, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

yeah, I skimmed over your game history after friending you. :P

Remember you will still need a compatible 'smartphone' tied to the same internet, to access the online lounge to invite your friends to gaming session and to use voice chat.

You think if they now charging for it, they could at least put the lobby and voice chat into the Switch Horizon OS itself, so you don't need to be tethered to your phone.

newer switch sdks have voice chat for devs to utilize, fortnite already has ingame voice chat so any dev can just update or add it if they want to.

has there been a single positive post yet? just seems like a shit load of people declaring that they won't buy it and hate it without posting much of anything that's constructive.

That's because there's nothing constructive to say about it. It's garbage. We already have online play in Mario Kart but they will take it away to make it paid. No one cares for these legacy games! We have emulators. How many times can one person pay for ancient shit? Only so many times I can play these arcade style games. On PS4 at least it's new games (mostly).. not just Mario and Zelda and remasters. Switch gamers already had to pay $300 USD for a console with 32GB space and barely any games but the ones that are there, are more expensive than on the other consoles -_-

P.S. I have a Switch and PS4-Pro.. not just ranting for no reason.

I'm just going to chill and stack my collection and wait for The Last of Us 2 to come out. No more buying rehashed Nintendo games. Still.. I want to play Smash online but not sure if I'm willing to pay the $20 just for that one game (although it's not much of a cost) :l

Nintendo charging for online is a disaster. Their library is too small to warrant it and nes games even with online play don't count for much, they should market the "Free Online" feature of the system to bring in more players.

Would you trust Nintendo with your card details? I know I wouldn't

I don't expect them to add significant stuff or features, not without increasing the subscription fee at least, it's a pretty simple service and it's a lot cheaper than it's competitors so you just get what you pay for I guess.

Nintendo's Reggie already said that the service will NOT be worth it at launch but will be in the near future.

So with that said why don't most people just wait it out for now rather then bitch?
