Wii on Wii U Virtual Console: Injecting Games

Requirements:
WiiScrubber v1.40;
nfs2iso2nfs v0.5.4; it may require the Wii common Key. You can use wiiscrubber's key.bin renamed to wii_common_key.bin.
A clean rip of your Wii game;
The extracted contents of a Wii VC title for the Wii U (except the .nfs files);
-the 2 below require java to be installed-
jnustool (requires Wii U common key so you'll have to search online - hint: it begins with D7B0. Open the "config" file in notepad and paste the key inside, replacing [COMMONKEY]);
NUSpacker (must be @ihaveamac's version, requires Wii U common key as well)

Current limitations:
It's possible to use the gamepad to emulate ONLY the Classic Controller.
Wii Remote emulation is possible but there's no gyroscope or infrared commands (at least for now).
(Input emulation patches by @FIX94)

The game must be already compatible with the Classic Controller but that isn't a guarantee that it's going to work.
Here's a compatibility list: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_VC_Wii_inject_compatibility_list

Integrity checks are still in place so only clean disc rips work.
The game iso must be pristine: untrimmed, unscrubbed and the partitions signed.
No homebrew, no mods, no wimmfi patched games until sigpatches are implemented.

Patched isos work now! Original idea by @Tock46!

Homebrew works now, even a special version of Nintendont by @FIX94

Trimmed isos still don't work, at least not isos trimmed by WiiScrubber.

HOW TO DO IT

0. Downloading a Wii VC Title
This may be illegal and I'm just telling you so you don't ever do it by mistake OK?
You can use the command line to download games' contents directly if you know the title id and title key.
I heard you can get them on a certain titlekeys site...

Once you have that, this is the command
Code:
java -jar JNUSTool.jar TITLEID TITLEKEY

NmNYbOu.png

Note: You should get a game that contains the latest revision of fw.img (r590), that's the only version supported by @FIX94's patches.
Here's some info you can use to verify that you have a good file:
Size: 1785497 bytes.
CRC32: E2F27E9B
MD5: 3CAF52A9A440EEE4F125A3AD22E305C8
SHA: A5A75EBF3164874830A1D5992495DE510AB3F74E

Now here's a list of some titles that contain the preferred fw.img (verified mostly by @fejich and @markehmus)
DONKEY KONG JUNGLE BEAT [VBXE01]
Kirby's Epic Yarn [VARE01]
Lost in Shadow [VA8E01]
Mario Strikers Charged [VBFE01]
Mario Super Sluggers [VBHE01]
Pandora's Tower [VAPE01]
PIKMIN 2 [VBTE01]
PIKMIN [VBUE01]
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition [VBDE01]
Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles [VBWE01]
Rhythm Heaven Fever [VAKE01]
Sin and Punishment Star Successor [VALE01]
Super Mario Galaxy [VBKJ01]
Super Paper Mario [VBBE01]
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword [VANE01]
Trauma Team [VA6E01]
Wario Land Shake It [VBGE01]
WARIO WARE SMOOTH MOVES [VBVE01]

-----------------------------------------------

1. WiiScrubber
First setup WiiScrubber. Remember it needs the Wii common keys so run MakeKeyBin.exe first and do as it says.
Run it and open you iso. Right-click the UPDATE partition and select "Delete partition". Confirm.
uE02Phr.png

Now click on the + box to expand the DATA partition, then expand partition.bin.
Right click tmd.bin, select "Extract" and save it.
Do the same with ticket.bin.
jJPl3Wy.png

Rename the extracted ticket.bin to rvlt.tik
Rename the extracted tmd.bin to rvlt.tmd

Copy/move both files to the "code" folder of the Wii VC title.

Your iso is now ready and you can close WiiScrubber.

2. nfs2iso2nfs
Move your iso to the "content" folder of the Wii VC. Rename the file to "game.iso".
The content folder should contain only game.iso and the "assets" folder. Delete any nfs files that are still present.

Copy nfs2iso2nfs.exe to the content folder and run it. If everything is in place, it will begin the conversion process.
It should take around 15 minutes. Its console window will close when it's finished.
Once it ends you can delete your iso file and nfs2iso2nfs.exe (and wii_common_key.bin if it exists).
The content folder should contain only the nfs files and the "assets" folder.

Optional: You can enable Classic Controller emulation for playing using only the gamepad.
Open meta.xml (it's in the meta folder) in notepad.
Look for the line
Code:
<drc_use type="unsignedInt" length="4">1</drc_use>

replace it with
Code:
<drc_use type="unsignedInt" length="4">65537</drc_use>
and save the file.
Note that this will only work if the game supports the Classic Controller.
If it doesn't either it won't boot or you won't be able to do anything and only the gamepad's power button will work.
Here's a list of such games: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/List_of_Wii_games_compatible_with_Classic_Controller

3.NUSpacker
The final part, building the installation files.
NUSpacker requires the Wii U common key. You should find it online and then open the file "encryptKeyWith" with
notepad and paste the key inside (hint: it begins with D7B0)

It's also a command line tool so you'll have to write down the commands, or simply create a new text file,
write the command inside, save it and change the extension from .txt to .bat

I recommend copying the Wii VC folder (that contains the other 3 folders, code, content and meta) to nuspacker's folder.
That will make everything easier.

The command works like this (replace with the names of your own folders)
If you folders have spaces in their names, enclose them in quotation marks, like "Just Dance".
Code:
java -jar nuspacker.jar -in GAME_FOLDER -out INSTALATION_FILES_FOLDER

Wiait until it finishes the process.
Now just copy the folder with the installation data to the "install" folder SD card, run a CFW and install it with WUP Installer GX2!

PS: If you make a nonfunctional game, remember to uninstall it before trying again.
If you install a fiunctional game over a broken installation, it will still appear as broken.

I wonder if there is a way to get the wii vc version of nintendont to run a different config, so it keeps the vwii config separately.

Was it a nintendont forwarder or the full dol injected into the vc? I use @ploggy s forwarder and then have the dol in my sd:/apps/nintendont/

use poggy's forwarder https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzEB8f_rxW-oV3RWVEJ6Z1JMYnc

with https://github.com/FIX94/Nintendont/blob/master/loader/loader.dol?raw=true renamed to to boot.dol in yournintendont folder in your sd card

edit: yeah .. ninja'd ... what he said

... and see what Fix94 says

https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendont.349258/page-1868#post-7579072

The latest build is 5.455 so make sure you're on that, dont trust external downloaders.
https://github.com/FIX94/Nintendont/blob/master/loader/loader.dol?raw=true
It was the one from wiiu usb helper.
I'll give the other ones a try

So wait, for Newer SMBWii, it says: "Classic Control does not work cannot be patched either". So this game is actually unplayable because no controllers work? Assuming you need Classic Controller for injected games?

doubt it'd help, just for others who actually get past init to try.
Oh also it has the start of a new feature that needs feedback/error message reports, it should be able to start a game.iso embedded in the wii vc iso, if you are building a wii iso just include a gamecube game.iso in the files directory and it should pick it up and start it/throw an error at you.
I have placed Mario Kart Double Dash iso in the files folder of an WiiVC iso.. Booted up the VC got to the game select menu, selected "Boot Inserted GC Disc" and got:

Loading Patched Kernel... -2

Initiating Storage Devices.... Error! -7 Shutting Down :(

I tried booting the VC without the SD card inserted just to be sure and get a "No Fat Device Found" which makes sense but thought it may boot the Disc Iso instead. :P

Really!? Well that's cool, I've been renaming it everytime :P
on nintendont first post, it's said the forwarder is looking for both boot.dol and loader.dol on SD and USB. (obviously, only SD when inside a WiiVC)
USBLoaderGX is also compatible with "loader.dol" filename, but not HBC, so you can only use loaders to launch it if you don't rename.

edit:
I don't remember the order it's checked in the forwarder, but if it loads loader.dol first then you can have both versions at the same time : loader.dol v5.x (launched by forwarder) and boot.dol 4.451 (launched by HBC).
USBLoaderGX checks for loader.dol first, so you can't use both dols with that loader, but if you are on wii/vWii you can use HBC to launch boot.dol.

So I just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved with this project. Haven't been very active on this forum in a while, but I feel I need to say something on this, because this is something I had always wanted.
I eventually bought the Wii U back in 2015 because I had heard of this off tv play and mistakenly assumed vwii would fall under that including gamepad support. Then after understandably being disappointed I got excited once again upon hearing IOSU might allow for that to happen. Then when it finally did get released it still wasn't the case and I was starting to lose faith in it. Suddenly this thread went wild and voila, it's possible now. I can finally fulfill my dream of having a "portable" gamecube, at least until/whenever (if ever) Nintendo starts rolling out GC VC.
TL;DR thanks for fulfilling my dreams!

The new method can already have a new tutorial since we can simply use a Nintendont WiiVC Forwarder and update Nintendont dol manually. It's only about using FIX94's link to latest nintendont dol on it.

Is possible use gamecube controller and other controllers or usb load with Nintendont? thanks
you are asking the same question everywhere every day.
Just sell your console and buy a new one which can install HBC on vWii.
If your console has a problem, don't use it. being impatient and asking the same thing every minutes will not make developer work faster and help fix your issue.

get a new console, follow proper softmod guide, and you'll get all homebrew access you want.
I know it's a harsh answer, and you probably won't like it, but if your console seems to be the problem, why keep it? you are trying to find solution and workaround to do things by using unconventional methods.

where is the latest nintendont?
Nintendont thread, first post, fist line, first link.

the new nintendont v5.x are special versions.
they are currently NOT working by launching them the conventional way (from Wii or vWii with HBC or forwarders or loaders).

They are specifically coded to work as "WiiU Wii Virtual Console channel" injected with Nintendont homebrew, and launched from WiiU mode.
Install the WiiU WiiVC nintendont forwarder channel on your WiiU menu with WUP installer.
as it's a forwarder, it will load the dol located here : sd:/apps/nintendont/boot.dol
it will work ONLY with gamepad when launched from this WiiU channel, and will ONLY load games from SD card.

thanks. I was in that thread yesterday, but I must've overlooked it or assumed it hadn't been updated in a long time since it's a direct link. I saw the forwarder to nintendont, but does that use the same title id as hbl2hbc? I already have one for usb loader gx, which uses the same title id. I also read that the boot.dol needs to be renamed to loader.dol for the forwarder, is this true?

edit: sorry for going off topic.

edit 2: oh, it's already named loader. will that work with usb loader gx?

no, it's not the same titleID as hbl2hbc as it's not a channel used to launch "vWii mode" anymore.
it's now a "Wii virtual console" type of game (like the Wii games you download on eShop), with the game working with gamepad.
except, instead of the game (xenoblade chronicles X) it's replaced with another game or homebrew (here, nintendont forwarder).

it's not launching vWii mode and launching hbl or the forwarder once in vWii mode.
it's now launching nintendont directly from WiiU mode

edit 2: oh, it's already named loader. will that work with usb loader gx?
read my message (I edited) above yours.
it's said USBLoaderGX is (for the moment due to nintendont full source rewriting) not working with nintendont v5
and you have to rename it to "boot.dol".

"loader.dol" works, but boot.dol has priority, so if you have both it will not launch the correct one.
if it loads "boot.dol" in priority, you could have both at the same time like this :
boot.dol v5 (loaded by Nintendont forwarder in priority)
loader.dol v4 (loaded by USBLoaderGX in priority)

weird thing is that i can launch nintendont latest version through hbc and wiivc with no problem xD i also noticed that if you launch nintendont via wiivc the fw version is 255.255.255 and there is no network initialized, on hbc it has the regular fw version and the network is initialized

That's because Fix94 is working on fixing the launch issue on Wii/vWii, so "latest" is always a new, different version than the previous "latest" version from 10 minutes ago.
please, use revision number instead of "latest" :P

I think 5.452 (and maybe 453) worked with USBLoaderGX.
it started to stop working on 5.454, he did some updates to slowly progress in the boot process, hopefully he will find and fix all the issues until we can launch games again and get all the features.
