I have a 3DS XL and my girlfriend is currently playing a game on it. She asked if my 3DS has a microphone and I couldn't find it... Does the XL have a mic on it? If yes, where on it?

region three works. format your card... write them again.. what card are you using?
Thanks for the help to everyone, I just got the JP game working! Turns out when I type in the gateway exploit site address, I would get an invalid link. I searched for it on google and did that instead and now it works fine!

Now that that's resolved, any idea why the card works on my 3DS XL and cousin's 2DS, but no my regular 3DS? I don't think there's any issues with my regular 3DS' card slot as it's never had any problems in the past...

edit: I have now tried 2 NA games, both work fine on my XL and cousin's 2DS, but neither work on my regular 3DS. Just keep getting the 'card has been removed' message. I think the card is fine and that it's an issue with the regular 3DS, but every legit retail game I've played on it so far has been 100% fine and I've never gotten that message before. Very strange. I tried formatting the regular 3DS' SD card and completely formatting the system too but no luck. Any other ideas?

I'm curious about .cia files.

From what I understand, they are used to install programs as tiles directly to the 3DS menu and run them from there, straight from the 3ds sd card; some can go online, some can't. Is it more often that folks just use .3ds files and select their game from a multi-ROM menu, or are .cia files the preferred way to launch?

I'm thinking that .cia installs seem more convenient since they're apparently smaller in size than .3ds files and can be launched right from the homescreen, but are there any downsides to relying on them for going online, saving, etc.?

Great questions and I am working to solve some of them.

Here is the problem with your plan to play retail carts in sysnand. As newer games come out they will have updates that need to be installed to play. As Nintendo marches forward with "stability update" firmwares your sysnand will need to stay on 9.2 unless gateway comes up with a new exploit. That is the purpose of classic mode emunand, to play retail carts that require higher firmware.

I am not sure what you are refering to regarding save file compatibility being different between a linked and unlinked emunand. Can you link to a reference that explains that difference?

Thanks for replying

No, what I meant by playing eshop games and retail carts are only those compatible with my current sysNAND fw
I understand that it may not make sense as I can just simply dump the cart or dump the eshop games to cia and install it by gateway, but I just want to know everything I can do using gateway

BTW for gateway setup I mentioned in my post, is it possible?

For saves, it seems that I messed up thinking that unlinked emuNAND treated as entirely different device, so it won't be compatible
Then I remember that this is the case with ps3 saves, not 3ds :P
as the matter of fact, save from 3ds can even be transferred to entirely different device http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_Hacking_FAQ#Can_I_share_save_files_with_another_user.3F

Thanks

That's cool. We can't do that in the US with video games, music or movies, only exchange for defective. (If they are opened).

So i bough super smash bros as you suggested,
My version is 8.1.0 now,
But still, whenever i click the internet browser i got this message:
"The internet browser will become available once you update your system via the internet.for details, visit support.nintendo.com"

Is there an alternative to install the exploit with the blue cart after you play a ds game on it? I want to play some ds games with my gateway blue cart. But doing it everytime is a pain in the ass

I cross-posted this in the tutorial-topic for the SKY3DS, but it might be better suited in here:

I purchased and received the following today:
- a Sky3DS, red button
- a 32GB microSD card (Kingston)
- a 16GB microSD card (SanDisk)

So, the idea was to use the 16GB card as my "golden", first card to install the first 10 games on - then use the 32GB card for additional games (it seemed logical to use the larger card for this, as it could contain more data/games). What exactly should I do now?

I know the OP said that I'd need Diskwriter v1.05 and template1225.txt.. but there are newer ones out by now (as of today: Diskwriter v1.06 and template0119.txt); should I download those, or go for the outdated ones? Also, there is no template1225.txt on the SKY3DS website at all, the closest one would be template1222.txt - where do I get the one mentioned in the OP?

Will the games on the "golden" card be rendered unplayable by using a second card for more games? I ask this, because it's mentioned a lot that it's adviced to only put games you'd never play on the first card - although I've read elsewhere it's better to put the largest games on the first microSD because they'd work better. Not too sure which way to go.

With the new Diskwriter update (*if* I should even use that one), is the 31 game limit solved? Or should I still only put 31 games on the 2nd microSD card? And how do I calculate how many games would fit on an 32GB one.. I suspect save data also needs some free space, so only accounting for the game sizes seems a little.. too simple, perhaps? Maybe I'm overthinking it.

And considering all of the above is accounted for, would I be wrong If I'd..
- Downloaded the needed Diskwriter and template (which one at this point unknown)
- Formatted and used the program as usual to burn 10 games on the 16GB card
- Insert the SD in SKY3DS and run each of those games once on my console (3DSXL with v9.4)
- Downloaded a fresh copy of both Diskwriter and template
- Formatted the 32GB card and used the program per usual to burn 31 games/31+ games
- Inserted the 32GB card into the SKY3DS, put the 16GB card away for now
- Insert the SKY3DS into my console, and used "the thing" to browse between the games

Or am I completely misunderstanding things? Help me, please?

I lost my 3DS with the red gateway card in it in a bus while I was traveling.

However, I got my sister's pink 3DS and for my surprise it's version is 4.x (she doesn't play in a while).

I still have my blue Gateway cart. Is it possible for me to install CFW (or any other rom playing exploit) without the white cart?

What can I do with it?

I know some J versions don't have a browser installed but not heard of an E. Make a post in the main sub and maybe someone has an idea. Good luck.

Sorry I still do not understand what you are trying to accomplish here. If you want two emunands on separate cards yes you can do that. If you want to have one linked to sysnand you should be able tondo that as well. I wouldn't reccomend it but give it a try and see how it works out for you. There are others that like this kind of setup.

Just make sure you make backups of everything before you experiment with your setups.

I just looked through quite a few posts regarding the Supercard DSTWO+, and I am still confused.

Is it a real thing or a hoax? Is it going to be able to play 3ds roms? Can it play 9.2 firmware? Do we know when it's coming out?

Sorry for the stupid questions.
I see promises from unverified sources on the net everyday. Until I see some concrete evidence I treat this news the same as all the others. Gateway said their card would work on the New 3DS and have not delivered two months later.

A valid method, I just wanted to go after the cheapest option; my supercard regular is quite good and I got it for so cheap. The Gateway is quite expensive.

Apples and oranges. 3DS flashcarts all cost more than the old carts and you have a old top of line. I wouldn't expect a cheap DSTWO+, my guess it would be the most expensive option especially if they include DS and emulator support.

So far sites are preparing to sell them for 40 USD. That's not too shabby; 18 bucks less than the GW.

But who can trust them when they haven't even come out yet? The 3ds flashcart scene has been full of hoaxes.

Actually I'm not quite fond of pirating games, but with gateway I'm thinking that I can try any games I want, and if I think it's worth it, I'd buy the original (no, demo is not enough. too long to explain)

That's why I keep asking for setups that allow me to
#1. Play roms and restore saves once I get the actual cart, and if it doesn't need higher firmware, I'd go play the original cart in my sysNAND (or else, see #3)
- So no downgrade to 4.x for me

#2. Setup emuNAND that allows me to run eshop, purchase game, and let me play it in my sysNAND. also for downloading updates
- I'm currently in 9.2.0, and this means to access eshop I need to do this in latest firmware in linked emuNAND. Because if it's unlinked, the tickets will be different with my sysNAND

#3. Setup emuNAND that also allows me to run retail cart that needs higher firmware
- Nothing important, also I guess there is no differences between running classic mode in linked or unlinked emuNAND

#4. Install cias that can be used to run tools ie, SD Decryptor, DevMenu, etc
- Now, I heard that if you install cias using linked emuNAND, you are not allowed to open Data Management or else all your cias and themes will be deleted (link). also you need to constantly unwrap installed cias every time you boot into emuNAND (link)
That's why I think I'd have an unlinked emuNAND for anything cia related

as for why I keep insisting on using 2 SD cards with linked and unlinked emuNAND, I recall I've read someone here in temp suggesting this, and I think this setup would fit best for me
but since I can't find that post anymore, I need suggestion from experts whether I get everything right

Edit. Found it. Here's the link
sorry I shorten it because I don't know if I'm allowed to post link to that forum

Sorry if this sounds complicated, but thanks for keep replying :)

I believe what he meant is white cart (with RED label) and grey cart (with BLUE label)

Let me state this. I am not an advanced user but well versed in the basics.
1. I don't think it is possible to inject your saves back in a cart at this time.
2. With a linked emunand this MAY be possible. I have not tried it. Test it out and see if it works.
3. You are correct.mmplay the carts in classic mode.
4. True as well.

Sounds like a 2 emunand setup is what you want. Will need two SD CARDS. To unlink the one emunand format the emunand from within emunand system settings. Do not format sysnad or you will loose your eshop stuff. Good luck and make sure to report back to me how it works out for you.

Here is the problem with playing in sysnand if you leave your wifi on in sysnand you risk getting an update and then you have to deal with the nag or worse make a mistake and accept the update and then it is game over.

Don't worry. I'm the only one using the 3ds and I don't play online much, I can keep the wifi disabled and use the android tool for go exploit (of course, make sure no internet for my android phone), so I hope I won't make any mistake there
I just need to confirm whether my planned setup is viable or plainly stupid. Your answers are just what I need

Sure thing. I'll reply to this post once I have my gateway
Thanks a lot :)
