no it's not of any use to anyone with a console over 4.5 unfortunately.

it's running a modified version of the firmware (which is how NAND redirection is even possible). so yeah essentially if you have a 4.5 3DS you can in theory enjoy everything newer versions have to offer and custom firmware features at the same time.
what this means for us though is that we can investigate potential vulns much more effectively than through just static analysis; we can debug crashes and such. doesn't mean we'll actually find anything when/if we do start looking, but it does increase the likelihood of us finding an exploitable vuln.

(and to be clear, this is by no means me promising I'll find such a vuln; just saying it might not be entirely impossible)

Can you post a decrypted version of the NAND here or would that be illegeal?

Edit: Actually according to nintendos terms of use, reverse engineering isn't legal either... So you all are already doing illegal things, so uploading a NAND wouldn't change

Does system transfer works inside redNAND ? Like you have a 6.3 3DS with games and you transfer them to the 6.3 redirected nand on a 4.5 console ?

smea, do you have the cartridge of pokemon Y or did you buy it with the eshop?
if you downloaded the game: does your redNAND allow you to use physical versions of the games that require the latest firmwares? I guess yes but I want to be sure...

smealum : I want to point you to this picture. On the 3DS most VC games have these "scanlines" shown in the right picture. This has something to do with the parallax barriers when 3D is turned off. Do you know if there is any way to make those VC games look like the left picture with normally squared pixels? Is it possible to hack the 3DS in a way it will always show squared pixels when 3D is off?

no clue at the moment. VC titles do include a config.ini file in their romFS so maybe there's an option for that but i kind of doubt it.

As far as I know, if you play GB and GBC games with their native resolution (with the gameboy/gameboy color in the background), 3D is actually ON and they are displayed normally with squared pixels. But if you play on fullscreen, 3D is off and the display shows those scanlines. The software to control the parallax barrier might be somewhere in the 3DS system files and not necessarily in the VC games.

I dont get it though why a fake hacker? Can you give me a quick rundown like he did this and then the other guy did this. Something like that.

Basically he did a lot of work on userland exploits like ninjhax and hb sdk stuff like ctrulib and hbmenu. That's the short story.

People were calling him a fake hacker because it took him forever to release ninhax 1. He also had emunand and cfw (he called it rednand), teased it with vidoes, but never released it. It's understandable since he's public with his identity.
