I upgraded from a DS Lite to a DSi XL, and I love the shit out of it. I don't care about pocket portability - if it needs to go with me, it goes in a backpack 99% of the time anyway - and it's so big and sharp and the battery life is bonkers.

The XL shows up the low resolution of the screens much more than the DSi. The screens are BIG, granted, but look very 'dotty' (sorry, couldn't think of a better word - pixelated, they are not, it's a bit like when you are too close to an old CRT TV).

I don't really have a problem with the change, I don't think it looks super noticeable, but then I've also played lots of ROMs on my computer at a variety of scales, so I understand if it's an issue for some people. I like the size, I see the resizing but it doesn't look distorted.

I'm going off to buy the Wine Red XL tomorrow, not worried about the portability too much as I mainly use my DS when at home. Shame they didn't do the default white and other colours like light blue/usual ds red in Europe. But the wine red looks more appealing then the other brown colour to me.

I have a Red DSiXL, and ever since my then "huge" DSphat suddenly looked so... tiny.

as for the pixelation, you'll get used to it. and once you get used to it, DSlite and DSi start looking cute.

I am in the same boat as you. Right now with a white nds lite and thinking of getting the xl red.

I would say wait along till the 3ds launch to get the xl when others are dumping theirs for a cheaper price.

I second the blue. I got mine when there were only 2 colours and i got poo brown because carrying around and red ds would be like having a pink one

the red one is nowhere near pink.

and i must say, wine red is a much less distracting color than blue.(which is important in a game computer)

I now have a Wine Red DSi XL in my possession ;] The screens are huge compared to the DS Lite, the metallic red colour looked the best compared to the brown colour.

It came with 1.4 firmware installed, will update it in a minute to 1.4.1!

XL is the same console and can do all the same things as the dsi but has bigger screens and a better build quality. The DSi has a finish that makes your hand stick to it and sweat. The XL has this removed. The DSi also has looser L and R buttons than the XL and it is more likely that the shoulder buttons will break on the DSi. XL is definitely better!

I hope you get an XL for your sake

But, if you would prefer, and i wish i had, wait out for the 3DS. It isn't too long to wait.

i prefer the build of my dsi than the xl

I don't agree with you. The only problem i have with the XL build is that the front sticks out a bit further than it should, the DSi is filled with problems. This is all my opinion though, and you are entitled to have yours as well

I'm surprised no one has brought up the fact that the DSi has the worst battery of all of them. The DS Lite & the DSi XL have better batteries than the DSi. Also my thought when I bought my XL was that if I am going to upgrade now with the 3DS coming out next year I would need a good reason to. The XL was the only one that offered me something that even the next gen 3DS wasn't going to be able to and that was the MASSIVE screens. If someone already has a DS lite then I can't see ANY reason to get a DSi when the the 3DS is going to be all of that and more. So if you ABSOLUTELY feel the need to upgrade now then at least get the only system that will have something to offer that the next gen one won't.

I know you already made up your mind and made your purchase but I figured there must be others out there still sitting on the fence. By the way I got my DSi XL and I've never looked back. It rocks!

Once you go XL you will not want to go back.

There's nothing quite like having 2 4.2 inches in your hands.

The list of innuendos goes on and on.

Get one if you need another DS and don't want to get second hand.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
