It's that time of the year again where I obsess about screens of Nintendo handhelds :P

I'm looking to add a DSi to my ever growing collection, while I do have a DSi LL it's a bit huge for my hands for longer gaming-sessions but I wonder would it be worth it? What I love about the DS Lite is the sharp and vibrant screens with the lovely pixel grid that's also present on the DSi XL/LL.

Does a DSi have the same type, of sharp, vibrant and pixel-y screens as the Lite?

(This time I watched the thread so I will catch the replies, promise! :P)

It does...

Oh that does look crispy alright, I guess I have to spend a few bucks on eBay, thanks! :D Are there any common faults with a DSi I should be on the lookout for? I know the DS Lite for example has the trigger-problem.

Since most of my use of the DS lineup is for classic gaming emulation, I tend to rate the screens in terms of how well they replicate the fading glow of phosphor of a tube TV. For all of the emulation I've done - this is the order in which I prefer the screens:

DSi XL/LL - the pixels hold on longer than any other model - long enough that small details/bullets/etc show really well.
DS-LITE - not quite as good as the DSi XL/LL but does seem to be very crisp and small details/bullets/etc are still visible.
DSi - the worst screen in terms of the display. Play something with lots of small bullets and you will find they just don't fade slowly enough for your eye to really catch them. I suspect this is because it has a very fast refresh which is normally a good thing but classic games were designed to be played on a screen that had a slow fade.

For more modern games, however, the standard DSi has fared very well for me.

Thanks for the write-up, that's a interesting perspective as I never emulate on my DS Lites and DSi LL.
