Do most apps on the homebrew channel require some sort of online connection?
VBAGX, and SNESGX don't work anymore for some reason (Exception DSi occurrence). I asked on here why they don't work and someone said that I must have an internet connection for it to run properly. This wasn't a huge problem since I don't really play SNES or GBA games much but I wanted to install some wiiware/VC games. My WAD manager doesn't load! Does this app require online connection?!
I'm currently at college where it does not offer WiFi so I cannot really test this out...
wad manager doesnt require wifi connection.

What error code was it giving?

There was no error code really. WAD manager just doesn't load at all. Black screen.

They don't have any method put in place to actually check if you're using an illegal wiiware game.
And again, nintendo can't blacklist your wii for anything not even online play.

Thanks mate. Still a bit nervous about installing VC / WiiWare .WAD games, but World of Goo looks sooooo tempting

Might just take a leap of faith and install it tonight

right get this out the way then...

i haven't been on this forum for a good while and the last thing i remember was the big hype over wiigator gamma. I come back to see the first few pages filled with this 'usb loader'

what is it? i assume its how you can put an iso on a flash drive and use fancy software to load it? correct me if i'm worng.

(oh and i dont need to backup games as that is what it seems like at first glance)

Yep, the USB Loader allows you to run games off an external USB HDD / flash drive with or without a modchip.

You'll have to install cIOS36 rev10 (custom IOS) before you can run the USB Loader from the homebrew channel.
I can't supply the link to the cIOS as they are forbidden on the GBAtemp forums.

Then you can add your choice of a USB Loader into your apps folder on your SD card. There are quite a few to choose from. Some have customisable user interfaces, while some support extra features like a cheat system (Ocarina) or auto download game covers.

You can check out a comparison chart of the USB Loaders here:

Code:
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/USB_Loader_Releases

The USB HDD / flash drive needs to be formatted in a file system which the Wii can read (WBFS) by using a program on your PC called WBFS Manager.
With WBFS Manager you then convert the ISOs on your PC over to the USB HDD / flash drive. It will cut them down to size (I think the same size as WiiScrubbed discs)

You can find the WBFS Manager here:

Code:
http://wbfsmanager.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=26808

Plug the USB HDD / flash drive into the back of the Wii and load up the USB Loader.
The USB Loader *should* detect your USB HDD / flash drive (its quite picky on the type of drive from what i've heard. Didn't work with my old 2.5" external HDD, had to use a Kingston USB Flash drive).
If it detects it, you can then select the game you want and it should load it and play!

Also, the USB Loader allows you to dump ISOs from the Wii's DVD drive to the USB HDD / flash drive.
So if you have any games on disc, you can transfer them onto the USB HDD / flash drive easily.

Hope that helps, and if I have made a mistake, please feel free to correct me, as I only just started all this homebrew wizardry

can somebody explain where i put game images on the sd card so it shows up on the usb loader

If i'm not mistaken, you need to partition your SD card in 2 parts.
One part in FAT16 for all the Homebrew apps (Snes9x GX, USB Loader, etc)
Another part in WBFS for all your Wii cISO (Custom ISO) games.

From what i've gathered though, you need to be running USB Loader 1.5 and cIOS rev10 to be able to load games from the Wii's SD Slot.

I've never tried to load games via SD slot, so i'm not 100% sure on this.

Good luck mate!

QUOTE(bp2000 @ May 3 2009, 02:23 PM) i will trade a hardmodded wii with a wii that has the hbc

If your Wii firmware is 3.2 or lower, you can download an ISO from the official Homebrew Channel which will make your installation a walk in the park

You can get it from here:

Hope that helps!

If your using waninkokos official loader they go in

SD:\usb-loader\covers

Also if your using a custom background with waninkokos loader then it goes it

it must be named background.png

SD:\usb-loader\background.png

So I have a hardware modded Wii at 3.3U.

I'd like to be able to run the "SD Card" channel

I upgraded to 4.0 through Nintendo. Big mistake.

Spent hours downgrading back to 3.3U.

I'm wondering if someone can explain to me if I can add this functionality without the problems of 4.0 system menu from Nintendo.

Specifically, I found I could not load new WADs onto my machine via Wad Manager ... and I couldn't even load my SD Card channels that I'd copied from my Wii (Just got immediately "Failure to Load")

Very dissapointed. Happy to not have a problem still thanks to downgrade. Thank God they implemented this.

Is my question clear? I've read much but it is a bit over my head I think.

Thank you for your time.

Its possible with 4.0 to run wads off sd card. You must install a patched ios60 before you upgrade to 4.0.
Theres guides on this board that tell you how to do it.

Its pretty simple.

make sure you have at least cios rev7 installed before upgrading.
installed patched ios60 wad
update(either through nintendo or using waninkokos 4.0 upgrader)
Run ios downgrader(If you updated officially to 4.0 from nintendo)

Enjoy!

I did mine through nintendo and have no problems playign wads from sd.

QUOTE(Link5084 @ May 3 2009, 05:40 AM) Does it matter what kind of cIOS rev I have?

You need the latest cios rev 10 i believe to use the usb loader.

Do I have to delete the Wii Shop channel in order to use the Wii Shop IOS51 installer or would it overwrite it?

it will over ride it.

Anytime you delete official channels like wii shop ext.. the next time you update they will be added back in regardless.

If I installed cIOS rev 10, then did I basically install Waninkoko's cIOS?

Yup he is he one who made it.

What exactly are you trying to do?

I wanna update to 4.0 but be able to install WADS, so I gotta install that. Pretty much beforehand the only apps I need to have installed are HBC and DVDX beforehand otherwise I cant install them afterwards. Are there any other apps that cant be installed on 4.0?

Alright, so I read that cIOScorp can let you run GC games from the disc channel if you run the mIOS patcher. Does this have better compatibility than Backup Launcher 0.2 for NTSC games? Can someone explain how to patch the MIOS to run games from the gamma channel to play from the disc channel? Is this the only way to play backup GC single and multi-disc games from the Disc Channel? And will this work when I update to 4.0 from 3.2?

I am having a problem using the wiigator backup launcher channel with the new system menu (4.0U). I have preloader .29 and cIOS rev 7 (or rev 10, not sure which) installed. I updated with The Ultimate System Menu 4.0 Guide (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=144835). The main problem I am having is whenever I try to start a game of the backup loader, the dvd just spins and is not able to be read. It does this when I let the channel autoboot the game, when I go to the options and launch the game, or go to the options mess around with some settings and launch it. Whenever I try rebooting with hooks, I get some huge code dump that takes up about five eighths of my tv screen.I have tried loading games up with ten different ones, all not working, so it is not the dvd the games are burned on. I am still able to install wad files so that is not a problem. If anyone could could help, it would be greatly appreciate.

Edit: On second inspection, it appears my Wii disc drive might be dead and/or dying. Could someone please tell me what to do in regards to this? Instructions on how to replace or safely send back to Nintendo to repair would be helpful.
This is a video showing how it sounds and how it is not reading any disk.

You should put WADManager in the apps folder of your SD card (make it look like this:
apps/WADManager/all the files you downloaded )
And then place the .wads you want to install in a folder called wad in the root of your SD card.

Plug the SD card in your Wii, start the HBC and go to WADManager. Follow the onscreen instructions

I am currently on 3.1E and would like to upgrade my fw to 3.2E

I assume I need to use IOS Downgrader first, then CIOS Downgrader ?

If so, can someone PM me links for these apps please ?

Hello all,

one sure thing: I am a noobie... :-) hopefully not a total moron but still a noobie.

Having said this, I have been reading for a while now and honestly I am a little confused...I followed the whole scene since Waninkoko backup loader and I ended up with a working WiiGator Gamma Loader. So far so good.

I have a list of things I would like to be able to do with my Wii and I understand all of them are possible, I am just confused from all the options that are available these days.

What I would like to do is:

1) Inject backups in a USB HD from the Wii
2) Inject backups in a USB HD from a PC (Linux based)
3) View with a nice GUI all backups available in a USB HD (by nice I mean with a Title and a Picture...it would be great in a "photo album" fashion)
4) Load a backup in a USB HD directly from a channel (one channel per backup)
5) Play DVD directly from the Disc Channel or from a Custom channel
6) Play DivX directly from the Disc Channel or from a Custom channel
7) Stream a DivX (or DVD) from a PC and view it on the TV through the Wii (obviously on the same network)
8) Organize my MP3 collection on a USB HD, and view and play music directly from a Channel on the Wii
9) Organize my TV Show DivX collection on a USB HD and view and play video directly from a Channel on the Wii
10) Listen to Web Radio starting a homebrew directly from a Channel on the Wii (with the possibility to upload a configuration file with some custom radio channels)
11) Change the Channel order

What are my best options for each requirement?

For 1) I am currently using the USB Loader v1.1 by Waninkoko and Kwiirk, but the backup list does not look that great (see requirement 3)). For 5) I tried DVDX but without any success...for 6) and 7) I tried with MPlayer but it does not work that great...or maybe I did something wrong...for 10) I tried some homebrew I found around but it doesn't really work...

I believe there is a lot out there, and I take a bow in front of all those guys(gals?) who are doing such an amazing job :-)

I would really appreciate if you could point me to a finite number of links for each item in the list...you would make me very very very happy! :-)

Thank you very much in advance!

Cheers,
Giovanni

Every USB Loader can do that
2) Inject backups in a USB HD from a PC (Linux based)
use a WBFS GUI program.
3) View with a nice GUI all backups available in a USB HD (by nice I mean with a Title and a Picture...it would be great in a "photo album" fashion)
maybe coverflow7, the ultimate loader or USB loader GUI
4) Load a backup in a USB HD directly from a channel (one channel per backup)
You can find some game forwarders on this site, I don't know how to make em, but its possible
5) Play DVD directly from the Disc Channel or from a Custom channel
Install DVDX and use Mplayer CE
6) Play DivX directly from the Disc Channel or from a Custom channel
see 5)
7) Stream a DivX (or DVD) from a PC and view it on the TV through the Wii (obviously on the same network)
Maybe Mplayer CE can do it, but not sure

i know nothing for 8-10 sorry

11) Change the Channel order
Press and hold A and B while pointing to a channel
someone else should still answer the other questions
