If you run the normal update through the Wii menu itself (cios and hbc already installed and the ios60 patcher) and run IOS downgrader after that, is that the same as using Waninkoko's installer?

No, no. You need to install 4.0 through the Firmware Updater THEN run the IOS60 patcher. If you're skipping the Firmware Updater step, then you're not installing 4.0, which voids the point of even coming to this thread. Plus, if you patch IOS60 now, and then install the system menu 4.0, it'll just overwrite the IOS60 with a nonpatched one.

Not entirely true, I downloaded and patched the IOS60 from kongnutz guide before updating to 4.0 and wiiware (downloaded) still plays off when it is copied to the SD.

Same here, I took a Virgin Wii last night. It had 3.4U on it, installed backup load, usb loader and wanikos cios36 rev 9.

Then I installed some wads, the usb loader channel and the backup launcher channel. Then the usb2 beta3 ios then patched ios60, then Wanikos sytem 4.0 updater and all is well. Everything is working, wads usb loader, and wad loader 1.3.

The only problem I still have and this was on both my wiis even before the 4.0 update, I cannot use Wannikos Wad Updater 1.3 with my 4gig micro sd card with adapter to update wads. My 1 gig and 2 gig cards work. Homebrew and the Wii Channels for SD and NAND work with it, it just wont work with the 1.3 with the 4 gig card. Don't know if it is a compatability problem with SDHC cards or just the micro sd card and Wanis wad tool.

the second ios60 is taking a long time it got to 15of15 and its been stuck there.how long is this suppose to take.

someone tell me please 15of15 been done for a long time and i just need to deny one more thing after this.its probably possible my wii is bricked but i need to know if its taking longer than it should which is right now about 10-15mins should i just power off my wii and hope its not bricked.

take out all Gamecube Memory cards and controllers and that should do the trick

i had all my GC controllers unplunged just forgot to take memory cards out.

can anyone tell me if the ios60 is just for the sd card feature for like games i never bought if so i don't think i need to do it again because i just checked my wii 4.0 and i'm able to move games i don't own and play them from the sd card.
really i have to say i don't no why i updated yesterday if i don't have an sdhc card yet unless my sdhc kingston 8gb card that didn't work for the homebrew channel because it was class 4 works on the wii itself got to go check.i'll come back with the results later.for tell me if the ios60 step was just for the sd card feature to work with games i never bought because if it is i don't need to do it again if it isn't than i have to make sure my memory cards aren't in my wii when i do it again.

Let me register here what I passed yesterday night. May be a little long, but...

After reading a lot, I decided to update to SM 4.0.
My Wii was 3.3U with no modchip and had only the HBC and Backup Loader Channel 0.3 gamma.

I decided to follow a mix of 2 tutorial. One I got from blackcats and this, from this topic. My decision is that because I wanted preloader intalled and the BC teaches how to install startpatch, but it has all wads inclusive from cIOSCORP.

Well... so I begum reinstalling IOS16, as it asked to, but I didn't need, since I had it installed already.
After that, I started the update from Wii System Update. Everything was going fine, but..... after 10 minutes of downloading the update, I got a 32007 error.
OK, I thought, I just have to start it again... BUT.... when it returned to SM, I saw the SD Card icon !!! "What the hell is that ??" I thought... "The upgrade was successfull or not ??"
I went to Preferences and there was the 4.0U number. Then I was afraid to restart my wii and if some IOS was not updates I was screwed.... so I went to System Update and started it again....

After some minutes, I got the same error. Then I decided to start Waninkoko's FW Update. It started downloading IOS37, but after some contents it returned an error... "And now...What do I do ? " I thought.
I started Wanin Update about 10 times, and always got the error (it could have some cache for downloaded contents !), some sooner and others farther....

I checked my internet and it was OK. Google for the error and got a message from nintendo saying to check the wireless and to set the channel to 1 or 11 (mine was set to 6, since was the less crowded when I searched once a time ago).

After that I started System Update again, and it was flushing very very good... BUT... at 50% I got again the 32007 error !
I was starting to get angry. Got out of Preferences and went do System Menu.

Then, I don't know what gave to me, but I clicked on Shop Channel, I think just to see if everything was rigt (but it wasn't, of course !). So, got a blank screen and the wiimotes stoped working... that time I think I was really, really screwed....

Rebooted wii and it was NOT dead (or bricked). A little bit relaxed, I opened Wanin's Update again, and started... got a surprise here, it started downloadind ShopChannel !!!! Wow, so the Wii's update really updated something useful !!!!

After some more tries, Wainin's Updated sucessfully downloaded ShopChannel, Mii and Photo Channel Updates... installed and reboot my wii.....

"Oh my God" ! Great !!!!
The next thing I installed was preloader ! hehe...

then all worked like a charm... installed preloader, cIOSCORP WADs, IOS Downgrader, preloader (again)...
Now I have my wii fully working on 4.0 and Start backups from Disc channel...

If somebody reads here, I'd like to ask ond thing:
Does Dual Layer DVDs works with these hacks ? I have smash bros on DVD9, but it does not even recognize the DVD....

Thanks a lot for everbody that made it possible !!!

Thanks for the guide, 100% perfect 4.0 for me after using it took about 1 hour to install.

Everything works, Wii, GC backups from disc channel. VC launching from SD ect.

Guys,

I'm running into an error when trying to install the Firmware 4.0 update (Waninkoko).
I installed the cIOS36 rev9 without any problem.
But when I wanna launch the cIOS Downgrader or the 4.0 updater, it either hangs on "initializing network" or gives me this error:

Any idea? (my network works fine: I'm connected through the ethernet-USB adapter and I can go online with the Internet channel just fine)

Thanks!

PS: I have a US Wii at 3.3U, softmodded with HBC installed.

What changes do I need to make if I'm running a WiiKey v1? I obviously don't need the backup channel. I just want to be able to run WADs from my SD card, and use the USB loader

Right now I'm running 3.2U. I was at 4.0, but I kept getting code dumps when trying to install WADs, so I ran the downgrader
