Industry leaker claims that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility support

Information on the successor to the Nintendo Switch has been hard to come by, as with the launch of a new console, Nintendo is keeping things to themselves for now. However, there's a leaker with a history of occasionally breaking news before official announcements get made. Industry insider Nate The Hate, who correctly knew that Game Boy games would be coming to Nintendo Switch Online months before it happened, but also reiterated plenty of Switch Pro claims, says that the anticipated Switch successor system will have backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch games.

This comment comes after David Gibson, a research analyst, found that an electronic components company, Hosiden Corporation, has allocated 2 billion yen for spending on production, and 1 billion yen on automation, in the "amusement" department. Hosiden has worked with Nintendo for hardware in the past, supplying numerous electronic components for the Switch.

The Nintendo Switch successor was supposedly set for a 2024 launch, but was reportedly delayed in order to have a better launch title lineup. What we do know for a fact is that Tokyo Games Show is taking place this month, and that Nintendo will definitively announce their new hardware before the end of this fiscal year.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed that the next console will have BC. Why would they alienate all those Switch games that's been raking in so much money for Nintendo and other developers/publishers?

Isn't this obivious though? If the new console didn't have backwards compatibility, I am sure that the console won't have any success.. .
It would likely still be successful, but not so much early on. People would wait a few years for the console to establish a decent library. There are a whole lot of legacy titles/collections on Switch that people would not re-purchase, however, so the benefit of that strategy overall would be minimal.

Now the only question which remains is: will Switch 2 automatically provide a performance/fidelity boost for Switch titles, or will Nintendo try to nickle and dime for those upgrades?

The news is contradictory - if Switch 2 has backward compatibility, then why is Nintendo "delayed in order to have a better launch title lineup"?

Only a brand new console that doesn't support previous gen has to worry about more launch titles.

Because the special thing about any new console is new games, backwards compatibility is nice but that alone is not appealing enough to make consumers buy tons of it instead of just staying with the Switch 1

Having lauch titles is like launching your console, as in launching a rocket. You don't wanna fuck that up. Otherwise it's just another portable that happens to have backwards compatibility with Switch 1.

Didn't months ago, select game developers claimed they have played a newer 4k version of Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild on the Switch 2 during a Nintendo event? And if so, I wonder, does that mean a new cartridge will be needed for new 4k games, or can they just push an update with existing carts to get to that 4k.

I can't wait for a new Smash Bros. and Mario Kart as always and at 60fps or higher. I wonder if Nintendo will improve their network infrastructure. Here's to being optimistic.
I don't know it this is an popular opinion or not but I'd rather have an enhanced Smash Ultimate than a sequel right now

That's why the Wii U had terrible sales as well.
Marketing was the true killer of that console. Not only did it have a name that made it sound like an accessory for the Wii. They also showed people playing with Wii remotes playing New Super Mario Bros U as the first trailer.

Super Switch? Ultra Switch? Don't think it'll be either of these two.
I don't think it'll be either but damn, Super Switch would be great

Switch Advance would be great too, but I prefer Super Switch. It's a nice throwback to the Super Nintendo and even the next one (if there is) could be Ultra Switch (or Switch 64 :ninja:)
