Only 5 cores work and some not even at full 100%...............
Well...that is the obvious point of Saul recompiling and others testing, so we can narrow/find which cores are stable and/or the definitive working RA version.

Once they are zipped & distributed, end users can select which core they desire and expect everything to work properly.

Most already know which cores/emulators are superior but stability and performance are key in gaming experience. Through RA-Wii, every official release is different (thank goodness for nightly releases) over the past dozen years, what i call a mixed bag, you never know what has been improved or what has been broken each release.

I myself love this project, although i know it is time consuming, we are getting closer to a beautiful release pack.

Without Saul giving his time and work, i can think of at least 6-8 RA emulators that weren't worth using or implemented at all. Now these emulators are the only (or definitive) way to play the consoles or computers.

I'd recommend Quicknes instead of FCEUG or Nestopia.

Also, I don't know where @SaulFabre is getting his cores from, but if it's from official RA gits, then it's expected for some of those to not work. At this point it's RA's natural behavior. A week ago downloaded and installed RA in my laptop and it also is not working properly. So it's RA's overall fault for their lack of proper management or interest.

In my opinion, RA for Wii can't be anymore improved than what it already was, and we can't expect a lot from a 20 year old underpowered console. For old PC games, standalone emulators are better than what RA-Wii could ever offer.

Of course not saying that Saul's work is useless, but be aware of the overall situation of RA. Saul can't magically fix problems RA has been dragging for years now.

I have my own RA build (after testing old and new versions for days) if anyone is interested or want to test it. I think, if interested I'd upload Cores+Info files, and anyone can test if the cores I'm using can fix their personal emulation problems within RetroArch. Yes, tge cores I'm using ain't perfecr, but overall is a nice "build" that doesn't conflict with configurations.

Amstrad, Sharp X1, Thomson, Sega 32X, Atari800, Atari 5200, Atari XEGS, Game & Watch, Odyssey2, PCE, PCE CD, Watara, Neo CD, Vectrex...all are superior or can only be played through RA-Wii.

Yes, many of the standalone wii emulators should be used, some are nearly perfect. GenGX, SnesTX, SnesRX, FCEUTX, mGBA, are all top tier on any platform let alone the chugging Wii.

I too have had my own RA setup for some years now and made it available as well. The objective here is not try competing with the standalone emulators, rather a comprehensive alternative for users who prefer RA.

Take a look at what emulators are being distributed and used through the WFL plugins pack, (which has over 20,000 downloads the past 3 years) these are my builds being distributed. These cores Saul is working on will be included if they pass tests, many are already included.

If you want to link your files, i would be more than happy to download and test, maybe some could be beneficial to the community and replace what is already in place.

Thanks for the recomendation, i'll take it and consider it for a new recompile in the nearby future.

that's the reason why i prefer using old RA Wii versions.
For your question, i take the official source code from the emulators while i can, and if not, i take from Libretro's git.
For Snes9x, for example, i take from here: https://github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x

For other that don't have an official source code site, i go to Libretro's GitHub http://github.com/libretro. Example, for Nestopia: https://github.com/libretro/nestopia.

I clone them using git command from MSYS2.

I recompile the new core with latest changes first (the libretro_wii.a), then i take the new "core library" and "pack it" into the older RA Wii frontend.

Amstrad, Sharp X1, Thomson, Sega 32X, Atari800, Atari 5200, Atari XEGS, Game & Watch, Odyssey2, PCE, PCE CD, Watara, Neo CD, Vectrex...all are superior or can only be played through RA-Wii.
for real.
Some interesting cores on Wii that they don't have standalone emulators are:

Sega 32X (PicoDrive)
SNK NeoGeo CD (NeoCD)
Pokémon Mini (PokeMini)
Game & Watch (GW)
Final Burn Alpha 2012 (Arcade)

For the first, rename any core to boot.dol and it should load.

For the second, delete all cfg related files and it should load.

Hi! tried the Psikyo core today and it amazed me it was full speed in Gunbird 2!

Noticed a problem though, the sound is faster than normal, creating dwarf voices on Gunbird series or Dragon Blaze.
Also Dragon Blaze has moments of frame dropping.

I'll keep testing.

Speaking of, tried Sailormoon with the FBa core provided and it DSI stack dumped on me (and last time i tried it run slow as shit), also Simpsons still doesn't have the correct audio tempo, had a blast playin Turtles in Time tough, but i can get splattehouse to work.

Hey guys, testing RA 1.19.1, i stumbled onto the issue with Wiimote not being supported by many cores since at least version 1.10.1 (maybe earlier versions also).

RA has inverted the controls in these current releases. Meaning the Wiimote is indeed functional if you change the D-Pad mapping but only if you map everything backwards, so in other words, the cores are still unusable.

Up = Down
Down = Up
Left = Right
Right = Left

This issue affects at least 8-10 cores...

Current RA releases are just plain brocken, and the whole system is bad at this point, the most stable version its been reported to be 1.7.6 r1, the cores however can be updated yet still built for older versions i think.

Also somebody has gotten issues with dpad inputs on RA lately? i did with the dpad specially while navigating the menus.

cores of Final Burn Alpha 2012 on Wii expects romsets of version v0.2.97.29.

Splatterhouse isn't supported by FBA2012, sadly :v Use MAME2003+ instead

A compatibility list of FBA2012 on GC/Wii can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18wYfqmi01HpPBlMnCclVfIhDfVW-SeN6mEdpYSK9VjQ/edit

for Sailor Moon, SuperrSonic made a specific FBA core which runs that game adequately.
For download it, check my RetroArch Wii and RA-HEXAeco archives here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/archive-of-old-versions-of-retroarch-wii-ra-wii.607976/
