With PlayStation 4 sales slowing, and the current console generation nearing its end, Sony is undoubtedly looking forward to the launch of the PlayStation 5, which is set for release late into this year. But, it seems Sony isn't quite ready to share their full plans and ideas with the public, just yet. They've gone ahead and launched the official PlayStation 5 part of their website, but it's pretty barebones, merely stating, "We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5, but we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation", and asking fans to sign up for their newsletter, in order to learn more, when the time finally comes for a full reveal of the system.

I mean, The ps3 is a 14 year old console and the PS5 is rumored to have extremely powerful hardware. plus the PS3 output at 720p and if the PS5 can handle much more demanding games at an even higher resolution it doesn't seem very unlikely

Why? PS3 emulation on PC is running very well these days, RPCS3 is sitting at 50% playable so far, I see no reason why Sony, who designed the PS3 and knows it inside and out, couldn't develop an emulator on the PS5. Especially when it's using Zen 2 for it's CPU, shouldn't be any problem whatsoever.


As to the news, seems kinda pointless if they weren't gonna share at least some info soon, so I expect an announcement is coming in the next few weeks.

Very excited for the PS5. Crossing fingers for extensive backwards compatibility. As long as all PS4 games work on the console (and I know they've "confirmed" backwards compatibility for PS4 but they weren't very cut and dry with it being all of the library) then I'll preorder it. I still have a launch PS4 so I'll see some upgrades on my favorite PS4 titles in any case.
