Thanks for your patience.

I don't know how I can finish the guide though when it tells me to open Homebrew to launch frogtool. When I try to open Steel Diver it gives me the error (so no Homebrew).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Or do you mean that I can skip this and the next part?
Is that so hard to read and follow the steps? Follow them and download all files (apps) from the guide. And you should be fine...

It's not difficukt to follow the steps... but the steps tell me Homebrew shoukd be there and it isn't.

No Homebrew = I cannot open Homebrew to launch frogtool.

Something's obviously gone wrong even though I've done everything thr guide says, in order.

What exact step have you gotten to then stopped?

Sorry, I had to sleep.

If I've missed something, do I erase all the files from the SD card (NOT incl. 2 default files) & uninstall/reinstall Steel Diver before I can start again?

Just continue the guide. If you get to a place where it is impossible to continue please tell us where you got to and what is stopping you from continuing. We'll do our best to help!

Okay, so I did the Seedminer/Bruteforce steps.

I did the Steelminer part and this is where Homebrew didn't seem to install (I had uninstalled the game's updated data prior to starting anything).

Next up is the B9S/Frogtool... then the Japanese Flipnote which seems an essential step. I can't do this step because of no Homebrew.

So, is it SAFE (i.e. I won't brick my 3DS) to skip the above step and go straight to Finalising Steps, creating the cias folder, etc.?

Sorry if I'm annoying, I just don't want to brick my 3DS & lose hundreds of euroes of paid for games.

You HAVE to have b9s installed or none of this is not ever going to work. What all error messages do you get when you load those?

I did everything exactly according to the guide, but when Steel Diver was started, no Homebrew came on nor could I find a Homebrew icon on my 3DS Home screen among all the games.

The only differences between my experience and the guide were:

1) I already had Steel Diver installed (so I deleted the update data)

2) I never had to select a Mii to create a save file as I already had a save file (I played this game when it first came out... not that I coukd get into it)

You are NOT going to see any icons until you have CFW and can install them.

At the stage you are talking about you have not yet installed B9S, you are just taking the steps to allow it to be possible.

You have access to userland homebrew only at the moment. If you follow the instructions as written you will have no problem. Where it says "access homebrew using any method" substitute the quote I showed earlier. Apart from that, literally follow them line for line eg taking your SD card out and putting files on it, powering on and off, what buttons to press etc.

If you're still having trouble, please tell us what page you are on and what section (Roman numerals) and step (number) you are up to. If you don't do that we are just going to keep telling you to follow the guide and that's all we can do if we don't have any better information.

I watched video because I refused to believe it coukd be this difficult. Here are a couple of things:

1) The video selected a Mii in Steel Diver and then quit the game
(I never did this as I already had a save file. This time, I deleted the game & save, redownloaded)

2) The payload.bin file appears to be a TEXT document. The kne I download is an orange cone. They are completely different. When I rename mine, payload.bin & click Properties, it showx the file is called payload (.bin) (.bin)
Yes, .BIN is there twice!

Okay, so do I need a text file or the orange cone?

In the video, Homebrew comes on right after selecting the Mii in Steel Diver. When I did it, I NEVER SAW THE HOMEBREW SCREEN AT ALL.

Edit
The orange cone is a VLC media player file

Edit 2
I also have no idea what quote is referred to.

About your second point:
In Windows go in "folder options" and make it always display file extension so you can actually see the full name of the file.
It should be named payload.bin, not .bin.bin, no parenthesis.

Never follow video guides. I linked you a site where all the steps are. Detailed.

Have you replaced the savegame?

That was fast, thanks!

So I just rename it payload because there's already the .bin (extension)?

I enable the extensions but I must ha e turned them back off (they're annoying).

Can I just confirm that I'm renaming the VLC/orange cone file?
As I mentioed, in the video I saw, it was a plain white text file (like a README).

Sorry, you replied while I was typing.

When you asked did I replace the save file, I'm not sure whqt you mean. I deleted the Steel Diver game AND save file to start the hack all over.

You should keep the extension visible, that way you know what you are clicking on.
As for the icon if .bin are associated to VLC (which they usually are if you have VLC installed) then yes. But what other payload.bin do you have on your SD that would cause such confusion?

From guide
"If successful, your device should load Homebrew"

Bullshit!
I'm sooooo frustrated by this! First time stupid hack wouldn't load Homebrew and gave an error whenever I tried to open Steel Diver, now it plays Steel Diver.

NO HOMEBREW!

I give up. This was a total waste of time (and thwt guide sucks because there aren't any pictures).
Should i help you?

Sorry, exam stress and then this. I guess I let frustration bring out the teenager in me.

The guide never got Homebrew going so I give up & I won't be coming back here (I have enough paid for games anyway), but I want to thank everyone who tried to help.

Sorry for the tantrum.
