I see people complain about it every where but with the PS5 and Xbox 4 rapidly approaching the way Nintendo handles the 3DS could be the support system for the Switch soon.

This generation is already winding down and the next one will be happening in at most 3 years. The Switch is a current gen console now but will be last gen then with far fewer years of support than the PS4 or Xbox one.

Will the same people be happy when Nintendo launches their next gen console and kills the Switch?

Isn't the Switch the first system of the next gen? That's what I've heard, at least.

That's mostly wishful thinking on the part of Switch owners like myself.

It's considered part of this generation officially at the moment.

are you sure . . . thats not how it reads (or works) bro

Read the question in topic. Answer it.

Read the first post. See that it's clearly about the fact that people want the 3DS to die sooner so the Switch gets better games. See question about whether people realize that overall this behavior will encourage Nintendo to kill the Switch sooner once the next console generation launches.

Pretty simple.

I get your point but you dont have to worry that much. Console companies does not rely on the timeframe of competitors but rather more on these 2 factors:
1. Console sales
2. Hardware capabilities.

As long as factor 1 is high, expect longer life span. Wii U was released early because wii reached the peak of console sales. Xbox360 sold well and ps3 bloomed significantly in the later years so they extended the life. 3ds had new 3ds for better hardware and to boost sales as well as the ps4 pro and xbox one X.
Wether the ps5 or next gen xbox releases tomorrow, as long as the switch sells like hotcakes and is capable enough to run their games, you will not see another gwneration.

Essentially why the 3ds exists for now is because it is selling reasonably well for its hardware and software as of this time of writing. Should the situation change, we will have to say goodbye to the 3ds.

This doesn't even make any sense?

The Switch does not belong to the Console Generation of PS4/Xbox One, Nintendo is always a Gen Ahead, the Current Gen includes,
PS4 - PS Vita
Xbox One
3DS - Wii U

The Switch is the first of the Next Generation consoles. The majority of its life will be spent with PS5 / Xbox Two.

Will the same people be happy when Nintendo launches their next gen console and kills the Switch?

Ya dude, Grasping on to the past is both futile, and pointless. You need to learn to accept change. My 3ds's are gone, we now have zero in the house. We do have a PS4, a PS4 Pro, a Xbox One X, and 2 (soon to be 3) Switches. When PS5 comes out the PS4s will go, When Xbox 2 is released the Xbox One will go.

How is the switch going to officially be part of 8th gen consoles when the Wii u was part of 8th gen? Wii was the ps3/360 competitor, Wii u was the ps4/xbox1 competitor.

Its not, like you said.

the Switch is sharing a couple, Maybe a few years with PS4/Xb1 of what its 8 year lifespan? It is a Gen 9 Console, dude is in denial is all. This kind of stuff always happens around new console gens, people get upset, they dont like change, they dont want to spend more money, they cant accept that there old tech is just that.

The 3ds came out in 2011, its been almost 8 years, its time for it to die. February, 2019, times up. It had its mid cycle refresh in 2015, its had its 8 years, let it go people.

Ninty already let it go, Pokemon has moved on, the console seller titles have moved on, they are just soaking up the aftermath sales, as far as I am concerned 3ds is already dead, all the devs that matter are gone.

The switch is 1 year and 3 months old only. Expect 5 to 6 more years out of it. I get everyone loves the switch but each console generations follow the same timeline and trend. The 3ds support or the ps5/XB2 Launch will not lengthen or shorten the switch life. 6-9 years for another generation. So whether we like it or not, it will stay or change until it is time.

Let's not forget, the Wii had a life span of what, 6 years? Wii u had a lifespan of what, 5 years? Im talking lifespan as in nintendo no longer makes games for them. The only thing that will keep the switch afloat is that it's portable, it's a replacement for ds. We will most likely see a new console from Nintendo in 3 or so years, when I say new console I mean an actual console, not a portable. That's Nintendo's trend, half way through a generation release new hardware. When Sony and Microsoft put out new hardware Nintendo most likely will too.

The switch is a full console first and a handheld second, so no, no we wont lol. There is a better chance of us seeing a 4ds than a Home Console.

Besides that, there is no reason, The Switch is already much more powerful than the Wii U, 4k graphics ect, is not what Nintendo is about, never has been never will be.

Still doesn't change the fact that Nintendo consoles only have a lifespan of about 5 years. That's been a Nintendo trend since the GameCube.

Nintendo consoles have a lifespan of 6-7 years, except the Wii u, which sold awfully. Its also only been a year, the Switch still has 5+ years with it.

Then we could expect the same or longer. Nintendo will deliver. Like i said, depends on the sales and hardware capabilities.
Nintendo didnt leave the wii u owners despite the incredible loses.

The release of consoles is driven by one thing: sales.

3ds is still selling, especially in japan. It still has potential to do half or more of what the ps4 sales are in japan from month to month. Seriously, look at the numbers. And the switch is doing way more.

Expect the 3ds to still sell for a while, and expect nintendo to continue supporting it. Hell, they continued supporting the NES through till the n64 if I recall correctly. i forget the details, but the important bit is they support what's selling.

Switch will continue on until they expect sales to dip. Then they'll probably release an updated version. Switch DX or something. Personally, I'm expecting the "switch successor" will just be a more powerful switch, or a more accessible switch (ds to ds lite, or 3ds to new 3ds). Maybe they'll go switchDS lol. I doubt it, but wouldn't it be funny.

Point is, Nintendo follows their own market and their own sales. They will only compete with Sony and Microsoft as it directly applies to their market. And even then, the way they do so is by playing to their strengths rather than one-upping the strengths of their competitors. PS5 and Xbox2 will influence the market, but I expect switch sales to be competitive. Meaning, don't expect a meaningful revision any time soon, with the potential for a smaller revision around the same time the ps5 or xbox2 drop (though probably just a price cut).

5-6 years max. That's been the case for the gamecube, Wii & Wii u. When I say lifespan I mean Nintendo no longer made games for them, no more 1st party support.

3ds is going on its 8th year now with AAA games coming soon. Like everyone says, sales will dictate. Hardware or software.
