Wall Street Journal reports Nintendo will focus on peripherals for Switch, not hardware revisions

gggg.jpg

According to the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo won't be looking towards hardware revisions for the Switch, at least for a while. Sources close to the company state that Nintendo will instead opt to focus on making peripherals to draw in sales. The Switch is on track to have sold 17 million units by the end of March, a year after the console's launch. This report comes a month before the release of a peripheral for the Switch; the Nintendo Labo, which Nintendo plans for it to cater to a market that might not normally buy a Nintendo Switch. Additionally, the Wall Street Journal report claims that new peripherals that use the Switch's USB-C port are in the works, as well as new network features. In regards to a hardware revision of the Switch, the source says that this is unlikely, as Nintendo will be focusing on streamlining current manufacturing for the system.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Every Nintendo console goes without major revisions, only their portables don't. Switch is considered a console because its internal real estate is full, unlike 3DS which was already weak at the time of its release.
I mean, revisions are possible. With a better hardware structure, they could upclock the cpu to even the shield tv standards, and even upclock the gpu and add a better cooling system. That, my friend, would make the switch a total beast and even deliver even better looking games.

They'd have to make the system bigger to allow for more airflow, and I doubt many people would be happy about that. The whole system is already a compromise between many factors they had to consider in designing it.

Joycon D-Pad when?
They're already available. So whenever you want to replace your shell, really. I have no problem with the buttons, they make it easy to avoid missed presses.

From a company that often blatantly lied about their short term future I wouldnt trust anything like that.
Switch has a couple of problems that would definitely benefit from a hardware revision. And I'm sure there will be one this year.
I hope so because i'm not buying one until they make it more sturdy. They seem to crack in different places for no reason.

I've dropped mine onto the floor from almost 3 feet (accidentally) and it still looks pristine... someone has to be doing something really wrong for it to be cracking "for no reason"

I sense a switch vr incoming
vr sk will be fun •w•
Switch VR? Using that pitiful screen? On that weak SoC? What do you plan on playing in VR, pong?

Anywho, if this is in any way credible, it's not particularly good news. The Switch is marred with design flaws and a revision would really go a long way with ironing them out. I can see why Nintendo would be reluctant to do so, changing the dimensions of the rails would automatically make all previously released accessories incompatible, but there are other things that could be done to improve the system.
