Sony Surveying Users on Potential PSN ID Changes

PSN.png

Launching in 2006, the PlayStation Network has been an integral service for any player of Sony systems, providing online content and multiplayer capabilities amongst a plethora of helpful features to its ever-growing userbase. Despite this service being almost 12 years old now, Sony have yet to provide a means of changing your PSN ID - the face of your online PlayStation experience. This could be about to change.

Recently, Sony has been sending out surveys to an unknown demographic of PSN users, asking whether being able to change their ID would be a feature they're interested in. Interestingly, the email below first posted by PushSquare requests secrecy from its recipients, stating they "can’t be sure whether this feature will be added or not."

Would you be interested in changing your ID should the feature be available? Do you have an unfortunate name from 2006? Let us know below.

It's definitely necessary, but I have one problem with it, and that is when I go to my friend's list and go

"Who the hell is this? I didn't add this guy."
It will be like in steam, where everyone has a new nickname every week. Awesome!

Exactly. I do recognize that people had horrible names years ago that they want to change now, but hopefully Sony will have a system in place to limit how often it gets changed. I'm not ready to accidentally delete an online friend from my list, because he's now a fourth name away from his original in a two week span that I don't recognize.

I mean, they're likely going to charge you when you want to change your username like Xbox Live does, that's basically a guarantee. Unless you have friends willing to throw away $10 or whatever every other day for name changes, that's likely not going to be any kind of problem.

I have always kind of had the same ethic for usernames since I was a kid so i've never had a desire to change a name. I always use latins words or something occult. Pluupy is the wildest username i've ever come up with only because I wanted "Puppy" but it is usually taken.

Finally DLC such as "Name Changer" are offered for our PSN accounts. Was about time.
Can't wait for the PSN-settings-pass for being able to use the PSN settings (needed to be bought for every of your systems seperatly, expect the first system on which you have initially signed-up) ;)
You already can buy the PSN Settings pass, its called PS Plus

never taken, never in style, never out of style.
Also never signed up for live nor psn.

That said I like people making assumptions when I am using one of the lame names friends and such made in a moment of lack of inspiration.

After this they need to implement wishlist adding/viewing on PS4 consoles.

Above all, I'd prefer sorting of the download list to actually be able to find what I already own on PS3 before I have to renew my PSN account as it is useless for my PS4 and Vitas now

That could easily be circumvented by having a "Previously known as:" section if you highlight it or whatever.

Not me, I got the exact username I wanted many years ago. But of course this can be a nagging issue for some.

Yes, this should be a standard issue. There's absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be able to change my ID at will, I'm just a number on their system anyway, the ID is just my personal form of identification. While they're making the system better, they should also include the ability to change your country of residence and, by extension, currency. People move, y'know. I would quite happily change my country of origin just to be able to use pound sterling, now that I'm based in the UK, but I was told that it requires a special request and it basically removes all of the content and trophies I've amassed so far. I am not sacrificing bushels of money, I may just as well start a new account - nothing's stopping me. It's kind of silly that having multiple accounts is the only reasonable solution for a problem that can be fixed with a drop-down box.
