If you have Haxchi, it's technically safe to update to 5.5.2. However, it's not recommended, since if something goes wrong with Haxchi, you won't have a primary exploit. DNS-blocking is recommended. You can also delete the update folder on the NAND to have another layer of protection against updates.

yes. I'm blocking updates with my laptop since my wii u connects to the internet through there. I did that deliberately to block updates. u might also delete the update folder in storage_mlc/sys with ftpii everywhere. I did that as well, so I'm fully protected.

Requirements

• CFW
• HBL
• ftpiiu_everywhere

Guide

• Start HBL via Browser or Haxchi
• Start Mocha and go back to the Home menu
• Start HBL again
• Open ftpiiu_everywhere
• Use FTP client to connect to your Wii U through its IP address
• Open this folder: NAND > storage_mlc > sys
• In "sys" you'll find the "update" folder: delete it
• Go back to Home menu
• Go to System settings > Update and try to update your Wii U. It will give 105-3012 error: this means that the system can download update data but it can't store them. Wii U can't re-create this folder

If you want to update again

• Follow the guide until step "6." (count)
• Create in "sys" a new "update" folder

If you have Haxchi installed all you need to do is download Fix94's ftpiiu_everywhere https://github.com/FIX94/ftpiiu/releases and connect with an FTP client.
No need to get/start Mocha.

Just to clarify: I have a WiiU running 5.5.1 with Haxchi. I have a legit Zelda BOTW disc and legit DLC. I allowed the system to download the update 5.5.2 and the DLC, then deleted the Update folder and installed the Zelda DLC. Now Zelda won't start unless I update firmware to 5.5.2, so I want to spoof it and stay on 5.5.1

My nephew really wants to play Zelda, but JNUSTool won't launch for me and iAqua's special file is corrupt every time I try and download it. Masterwin said he updated with a google drive link, but I don't see it. I appreciate any help you can offer me.

First, you could have just used NNU Patcher in conjunction with the proper DNS settings to download the Breath of the Wild update and DLC without downloading the 5.5.2 update. So, that was your first mistake.

As I understand it, the 5.5.2 update has been downloaded to your Wii U but not installed. Is that correct? If so, you can go to this URL in your internet browser to delete the 5.5.2 downloaded update: https://madridi7.github.io/WiiU/

After that, you should block updates with the proper DNS settings. My understanding is you already deleted the update folder on your NAND, which is another way to block updates.

Thanks for the info. You are correct, I have already deleted the update folder and blocked updates via DNS. I am still safely on 5.5.1, and all I need now is a working version of iAqua's special file to spoof to 5.5.2 so my disc will work. The one on the mega is downloading corrupt for me, and I have tried several times over the last few days. If someone has a link to a different host for it I will try that, or if someone has an idea why it is coming up corrupt for me, I would love to hear any ideas. Thanks in advance!

@Pwnjones I think it's possible you're misunderstanding what's going on, because a 5.5.2 spoof is not required under any circumstance. At the very least, I don't believe the problem is being fully described. When you attempt to launch Breath of the Wild, what is the exact error message you get?

Since I downloaded the Breath of the Wild DLC and installed it, when I try to play the disc, I get a message telling me it requires 5.5.2 to run.

When I was initially attempting to get the game to update, I enabled auto DNS and the system downloaded a system update file and the DLC file. The system tried to get me to update it, but I shut it down, restarted, and after deleting the update folder and re-enabling the DNS block I had, the game installed the update I had downloaded, but no longer prompted me to install the system update, though it remained in my download manager until I removed it via the Madridi site you gave me. Also, the prompt I got when trying to launch the game did mention a system update.

I had thought that since I was using a legit copy of the game and had purchased the DLC, I could allow the game update to happen normally without NNU Patcher. Boy was I wrong.

Also, the prompt I got when trying to launch the game did mention a system update.

That means the 5.5.2 update did indeed download and prompt you to update the system to 5.5.2, but none of that had anything to do with the error message you received, despite it saying that a system update was required. When a game wants to download an update but can't on account of a DNS filter, it will say something along the lines of, "An update to this game failed. Would you like to start the game anyway without the update?" Because of the DLC requirement for v1.3.0 or v1.3.1, you received the "A system update is required" when it failed to fetch the game update. The same error message you received plagued other Breath of the Wild players for similar reasons, particularly when using emulators, and even when their Wii U systems were fully up to date.

NNU Patcher is required regardless of the legitimacy of the game because NNU Patcher is bypassing a.) The Wii U's DNS filters, and b.) The eShop's current 5.5.2 requirements.
Neither of these things has anything to do with whether or not it's a legitimate disc.

There's no advantage to spoofing. You'll still have to update games using NNU Patcher.

spoofing originally allowed 5.3.2 users to play online. right now, there's no point in it though. 5.5.1 still allows online play. btw, if you have haxchi/cbhc, you'll already be spoofed to 99.99.99.
