I always had mixed feelings about the Persona games even though I ultimately liked them a lot. There were things about 3 and 4 (mostly 3) that were REALLY bad, but the good was so good that I was able to put up with it. Random, repetitive dungeons, generic palette-swapped enemies, daily routine eventually turning mindless, and in the case of 3, bad characters (seriously, WTF is a super-advanced robot with machine-gun hands that can pass as human doing existing in 2009. I'm cool with occult stuff, but why a damn robot? It could have been literally anything else and I would have liked it more (or she couldn't have been in the game at all)), but 5 is pretty slick. Most everything I disliked about the previous games is not there. No random dungeons, the characters seem more interesting (so far), and the enemies ARE the personas rather than random shapes and objects. Also, the game goes back to talking to and recruiting personas rather than just having a "shuffle-time" after battle.
I'm not too far into, but an initial episode that deals with (pretty realistic depictions of ) abuse and control is really well-written and makes me want to see where everything goes.
I'm playing on PS3, not PS4, but from what I gather there are almost no differences.
In short: If you like Persona games, this will greatly exceed your expectations.

It seems, though, that they still love choosing singers with horrible English pronunciation to sing in English. I can't take the music seriously if singer sounds like they have a stuffy nose and a mouth full of cotton.

Can't decide if I should get this on the PS3 or wait and see if Atlus ports it over to the Switch, I can't see why this game cannot be ported to the Switch; portability would be awesome.

It's probably going to be the last game I pay full price for on the PS3 but for same price a Switch version would serve me better, gonna wait for E3 2017.

Thanks for heads up thread for the PS3 version of this game.

I would place a large amount of money on Persona 5 never leaving Sony's platforms. Persona 1, 2, 3, and 4 have only ever been PS exclusives. The remakes and ports have all been PS handheld releases or a PS2onPS3 kinda thing. The Persona 4 Arena/Ultimax games are on PS3 and P4 Dancing All Night is a Vita exclusive. The only "persona" game not on a sony platform is actually an exclusive to the 3DS, "Persona Q", which is not canon.

Anyways. All that to say, I suggest getting it on PS4, honestly. But if you are strapped for cash or aren't persuaded that P5 is a system seller, then go for the PS3 version. I'm sure it will be more or less the same experience.

At the OP, I agree with you to a lesser extent. While yes, P3 had terrible dungeon layout, grindy mechanics, and a relatively boring progression, I quite liked the characters and the theme of P3. Even more so than I liked the theme put forward by P4. I was devastated by the end of P3 but I couldn't bring myself to play the Answer, as much as I love Aigis. I watched it on youtube and got he same effect lol

All this rambling to say I have been waiting for P5 since it was announced... back when it was going to be my 2014 winter game...

pfft, and I thought you were the number #1 Persona fan!
(not really I know it's @Chary)
I am not even the number one SMT fan! Chary and Crystal have me beat I think. But I am a big advocate of monster collection games. I am pretty new to the series. I didn't even play P3 FES until fall 2014 and didn't finish it till late into spring 2015. That said... they had such an impact that I have been foaming at the mouth for P5.

@ BORTZ

Persona 5 is not a PS4 seller for me simply because it's on the PS3 too which I own, I love JRPG's but I'm more of a Final Fantasy type of RPG gamer however FF15 does not appeal to me (Final Fantasy has not appealed to me since 10).

The only thing I'd get a PS4 for is Kingdom Hearts 3 but that's not enough reason for me to buy a PS4 since I also own a Switch and have a gaming PC, I honestly don't care too much for graphics as long as the game is fun and the artistic style is good (I often get consoles near the EOL except for Nintendo consoles).

I'm looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 more than any other JRPG coming out thus why I bought a Switch as I just like Nintendo first party games (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc...), I still haven't played all the RPG's on the PS3 yet (no time mostly) so there's still plenty for me to play on the PS3 and look forward too on the Switch and PC in terms of RPG games (Ni No Kuni 2 is also on PC).

The PS4 would sell to me if it had PS3 backwards compatibility via software emulation like the Xbox One, otherwise it's just a waste as the games the console is still expensive plus there's pretty much no must play games on it for me personally; I'll probably end up getting the PS4 Pro when it goes slim and the price drops for both the console and retail games.

The only real difference is 1080p vs 720p.
I owned neither console and opted to buy a $70 PS3 for Persona 5.
All this talk about a $300 console being ideal for an up-rendered PS3 game is crazy.

The game does look great, but my impression of its soundtrack wasn't that catchy or good.
I started to like the series because of the music. I even listened to Persona Q's music and enjoyed them even though I haven't played the game. Persona 5's soundtrack just didn't give me that good vibe that I'll like to listen to its tunes every now and then. :(

But yeah, hopefully the game is great and the persona fusion won't be confusing and tedious like Persona 3.

Reviews are up IGN game the game a 9.7 and GameSpot gave the game a 9/10, that's respectively 0.3 and 1 point lower than what Breath of the wild received.

Since the PS3 and PS4 versions are identical minus the more detailed and sharper graphics, I'd say the ratings should also apply to the PS3 if only slightly lower for being on a last gen console.

PS3 version looks great in this recent comparison video, it seems the only real difference is the resolution if your TV has a great upscaler it should look no different than the PS4 version unless you have it side by side.

already got my copy, 4 hours into the game and enjoyed every second of it. it's incredibly dark though.

also, it seems once you start a new game with english voice, you cannot change it to japanese audio? looks like I will restart my gameplay :(
